Systems and Methods to Provide Enhanced Diode Bypass Paths

Systems and methods are herein disclosed for efficiently allowing current to bypass a group of solar cells having one or more malfunctioning or shaded solar cells without overwhelming a bypass diode. This can be done using a switch (e.g., a MOSFET) connected in parallel with the bypass diode. By turning the switch on and off, a majority of the bypass current can be routed through the switch, which is configured to handle larger currents than the bypass diode is designed for, leaving only a minority of the current to pass through the bypass diode.

Lid for beverage containers

The invention disclosed herein generally concerns a lid for disposable or reusable beverage containers which facilitates access to the contents for addition of condiment and which enhances the users sensory perception of the state of such contents, without removal of the lid. The lid of the invention combines various sensory elements to simultaneously enhance the user's sensory responses of taste, smell, touch and sight during drinking with the beverage cup lid in place. The sensory elements comprise openings, transparent materials, shape and media, through which liquid and vapor can pass, and through which heat can, conduct or convect. In addition to the elements already described, the beverage cup lid of the invention comprises a physical element that allows the addition and stirring of condiments while the lid is fully installed on the cup. The invention disclosed herein integrates multiple elements of a press and lock on a beverage cup lid. The shape of the lid of the invention provides a thin rim simulating the thickness of a cup without a lid or a non-disposable ceramic or glass mug or cup. The lid disclosed herein provides a well deep enough to avoid contact between the nose and the lid in the drinking position, thereby allowing the user's head to remain more upright while drinking.

Field programmable filter array

A field programmable filter array with high spectral isolation and reconfigurability. A bank of resonators can be programmed at will and on the fly to give any type of filtering response. The order, type and bandwidth of the filter are electronically reconfigured. Each subset of resonators can switch between bandstop and bandpass configurations and form custom filter shapes consisting of combinations of bandstop and bandpass filters. The filter can include a unit cell of a resonator with a series of switches to enable coupling to any of its nearest neighbors. The path in which the flow of energy takes through the array of resonators is dynamic, and the filtering function which is created is dialable on demand.

Nursing canopy

A nursing canopy for concealing a nursing mother's upper front torso and infant is disclosed. The canopy comprises a panel of opaque fabric having dimensions sufficient to cover at least a region from the mother's upper chest to below the mother's breasts. A fastening strap can be attached to the upper edge of the panel for securing the panel around the mother's neck. A self-supporting neckline stiffener is located along the top edge of the panel and defines a self-supporting neckline of the panel. The neckline cooperates with the fastening strap to hold the neckline a spaced-apart distance from the mother, defining an open viewing area between mother and infant. A secondary self-supporting stiffener is provided on the panel at a distance below the neckline, the ends of which rest against the mother's sides to hold the panel a spaced-apart distance from the feeding infant.

Modular window well and associated accessories

A window well assembly includes U-shaped walls that have smooth interior and corrugated exterior surfaces, and are formed from polyvinyl material. The walls have coextensive ribs juxtaposed along an exterior surface thereof that are compressible. Each wall has an end wall with an opening formed therein, allowing the ribs to compress and expand. The openings are spaced at opposed ends of selected ribs. A mechanism is included for stacking the walls wherein a top edge of one wall receives a bottom edge of another wall. Ladders are seated against the interior surfaces of the walls. A mechanism is included for snapping the ladders onto the wall interior surface. A safety grill is mounted on top of the second wall, having an outer edge extending along a top edge of the second wall, for prohibiting the user from stepping into a cavity defined between the walls and the foundation window wall.

High speed download packet access communication in a cellular communication system

A cellular communication system supports High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) services. A first transceiver (201) transmits HSDPA downlink packet data in a first cell and a second transceiver (203) transmits HSDPA downlink packet data in a second cell. A cell overlap processor (205) can determine that a remote station (101) is in a cell overlap region between the first cell and the second cell. A macro-diversity controller (207) causes the first transceiver (201) to transmit first HSDPA data to the remote station (101) as a first signal in the first cell and the second transceiver (203) to transmit the first HSDPA data to the remote station (101) as a second signal in the second cell. The first and second signals are macro-diversity signals. The remote station (101) comprises a macro-diversity combiner (303) which receives the first downlink HSDPA packet data by combining the first signal and the second signal. The invention may allow improved support of HSDPA services in cell overlap areas.

An apparatus used for treating shoulder dystocia is provided. The apparatus is a Scapuloblade device with a handle, and a blade section including a first curved side and a flat second side opposite the first side. The curved first side is configured to fit the curvature of a mother's birth canal. The flat side may be bare, may include a friction padding, or may include diaphragm that applies a suction force. The device may be used to rotate the shoulders by applying torque on the scapula region of a baby's anterior shoulder with the flat side of the blade. The elongated handle, which may be an integral continuation of the blade, may facilitate the user to apply a rotational force to dislodge the impacted anterior shoulder so that the shoulders will be aligned with the widest diameter of the inlet of the birth canal of the mother for delivery.

System and method for demonstrating and investigating brownian motion effects on a diamagnetically suspended particle

An apparatus for demonstrating, investigating and observing Brownian motion and temperature of a medium, such as gas or liquid, uses a small particle which is diamagnetically suspended in the medium. The tiny magnetized particle having a known mass is levitated using a diamagnetic technique, and the displacement of the particle over time is observable, which can be used to determine a temperature of the medium. Optionally, a second particle is suspended in a vacuum but mechanically connected to the same apparatus as the first enclosure with the first particle, thereby allowing observation and measurement of non-Brownian movement of the structure, and allowing more precise observation of Brownian movement effects on the first suspended particle.

Liquid crystal device and electronic device

In a liquid crystal device, a peripheral electrode is disposed in a peripheral region of a first substrate between a display region and a sealing member. Application of a proper voltage between the peripheral electrode and a common electrode causes ionic impurities to stay outside the display region. In the display region, an organic silane compound layer is disposed on a surface of a first alignment film, which is formed of an inorganic alignment film, adjacent to a liquid crystal layer, but the first alignment film and the organic silane compound layer are not formed in a region overlapping the peripheral electrode in plan view. Thus, the surface of the first substrate adjacent to the liquid crystal layer has higher hydrophilicity at the region overlapping the peripheral electrode than at the display region.
