Multiple channel sound system using multi-speaker arrays

An apparatus that provides for the reproduction of 6.1 surround sound (or other formats of) audio programs using a minimum of two speaker cluster locations is disclosed. The current invention accurately produces surround sound effects with speakers in only two locations in lieu of the conventional six. A sub-woofer, in its normal configuration, can be used with the invention if desired. The left front, rear center, rear left and center signals are produced from a left cluster array. The right front, rear center, rear right and center signals are produced from a right cluster array. This configuration eliminates the need for a center speaker and for rear speakers. Such elimination of speaker locations, along with their associated wiring, produces a less cluttered look, and lends itself to use in listening rooms of smaller size.

Reducing unnecessary calibration of a memory unit for which the error count margin has been exceeded

A controller sets an error count margin for each of multiple units of a non-volatile memory and detects whether the error count margin of any of the multiple units has been exceeded. In response to detecting that the error count margin of a memory unit is exceeded, the controller determines whether calibration of the memory unit would improve a bit error rate of the memory unit sufficiently to warrant calibration. If so, the controller performs calibration of the memory unit. In some implementations, the controller refrains from performing the calibration in response to determining that calibration of the memory unit would not improve the bit error rate of the memory unit sufficiently to warrant calibration, but instead relocates a desired part or all valid data within the memory unit and, if all valid data has been relocated from it, erases the memory unit.

An MRI apparatus having an open structure includes a static magnetic field generating magnet including magnetic field generating sources arranged above and below an imaging space and magnetic field fluctuation reducing plates arranged inside the magnet. Gradient magnetic field coils are fixed to the static magnetic field generating magnet so as to not be in contact with the magnetic field fluctuation reducing plates. When the strength of the magnetic field generated by the static magnetic field generating magnet fluctuates due to vibration of the gradient magnetic field coils or other devices during an imaging operation of the MRI apparatus, an eddy current is generated on the magnetic field fluctuation reducing plates in response to the magnetic field fluctuation components. Magnetic flux which cancels the static magnetic field fluctuation components is generated due to this eddy current, and consequently, a time-sequentially stable static magnetic field can be obtained.
