System and method for personal area network (PAN) distributed global optimization

A system and method are presented for actively evaluating and adjusting device energy consumption in a personal area network (PAN). The method comprises: polling devices in the PAN to determine respective energy metrics; and, establishing network communications between devices using the energy metrics. More specifically, a master device establishes network communications rules between the devices as a result of the polling activity. The master device identifies energy metrics including the battery charge status for devices powered by battery and device link energy metrics associated with network link communication operations, determines the priority of operation for the devices, and optimizes device battery life in response to the energy metrics and the priority of operation for the devices. In a specific example of the invention, a Bluetooth network, the method comprises: establishing a piconet with one device functioning as a master device and at least one other device functioning as a slave device; polling devices to determine respective energy metrics; the master device identifying energy metrics including the battery charge status and device link energy metrics; the master device determining the priority of operation for the devices; the master device optimizing device battery life in response to the energy metrics and the priority of operation for the devices by modifying link states between devices, the link state including device scan rate, device mode setting, and device network role.

A Bluetooth wireless transducer network organizing and routing method

The invention discloses a network netting and a routing method of a Bluetooth wireless sensor, which combines sensor network technique and Bluetooth technique and makes full use of the matured physical layer, MAC technique and anti-interference capacity of Bluetooth network when the sensor nets network, so as to lead the system to conveniently and rapidly net the network. A designed Bluetooth scatter net takes the practical use of a wireless sensor network into consideration when netting and uses a tree topology. The netting consists of three stages: the selection of a root node, the forming of a root piconet and the expansion of the network. By adopting the netting method based on that the energy can be predetermined and the service time of the network can be prolonged, and under the requirement of emphasizing the longest service life of the network, each piconet of the formed wireless sensor network is left with vacant positions and backup nodes, so as to lead the formed network to have better reliability, flexibility and self-recoverability to satisfy the situations that partial nodes can be added on, moved and leaves the network, etc. The routing information is interacted when the system is net, and when the network netting is completed, the routing information tables of all the nodes are built simultaneously. When the network is operated, a low-power respiratory mode of the Bluetooth network and the transmitting and sensing information of the network periodicity are used for prolonging the life service of the whole network.

Wireless security badge

An apparatus and technique for allowing wireless electronic badges to temporarily establish a wireless network (e.g., a piconet network) with a network security station mounted in a facility of an employer, a gym, a membership club, etc. The wireless electronic badges automatically exchange user code with the network security station, and receives relevant badge information for display and use by that particular secured facility. In a preferred embodiment, BLUETOOTH technology is used in the wireless piconet front ends of the electronic wireless badge and the network security station. The disclosed electronic wireless badge includes an LCD display, a display controller, an information exchange module, and a wireless front end (e.g., a wireless piconet network such as a BLUETOOTH network). The electronic wireless badge includes a unique user code which is passed to the network security station. The network security station includes a complementary wireless front end, together with a database of user codes and badge display information for the properly authorized user codes. As an individual enters an area requiring identification, their electronic wireless badge exchanges a security code with the network security station, and upon proper authorization receives from the network security station appropriate badge display information for display. Exemplary display information may include, e.g., a photo of the authorized user corresponding to the authorization code in the electronic wireless badge, a name of the authorized user, an identification number, a company for which the displayed badge information relates, a membership type, a security level, etc.
