Method to determine the degree and stability of blood glucose control in patients with diabetes mellitus via the creation and continuous update of new statistical indicators in blood glucose monitors or free standing computers

Microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus are closely related to blood glucose levels and fluctuations. The Glycostator statistical package was created to allow patients and health care providers simple access to “glycemic indicators” which permit a “snapshot view” of the effectiveness of the patient's diabetes management program. Glycostator functions provide a simple way of enhancing the information already provided by home blood glucose monitoring devices. To this end, a set of new indices, including one called the Virtual A1c, are computed in a recursive fashion from blood glucose test results to provide a more meaningful day-to-day assessment of glycemic control. All indices can be made available at the meter user interface on request. The displayed indices allow patients to improve glycemic control by identifying problems with blood glucose control and lability that are less easily recognized in traditional blood glucose meter statistical packages. Virtual A1c emulates hemoglobin A1c continuously and provides better day-to-day assessment of long term glycemic control than does the traditional average blood glucose report. The method for computing each of these indices, including the Virtual A1c, allows for their implementation in commercial blood glucose monitors.

System and method for automatic indexing and archiving of paper documents

Enterprises deal with a lot of papers in their day-to-day activities. Many of these papers are company confidential documents and many are legal documents with a statutory requirement that they be preserved for a pre-specified number of years. During the course of time, there is a need to (a) obtain copies of these papers; and (b) modify the contents. Such frequent handling of papers may reduce the life of the papers and lead to statutory violations. A system for automatic indexing and retrieval of paper documents involves (a) storing paper documents in a secured manner in both hard and soft forms; (b) indexing of both forms of the stored paper documents; (c) retrieving soft form of a paper document for display and copying; (d) retrieving hard form of a paper document for modification and removal; (e) managing multiple versions of the paper documents; and (e) access control and audit trailing. It is essential to maintain consistency between hard and soft forms, and image processing techniques are deployed to ensure consistency between hard and soft forms. Another form of consistency that is required to be ensured is the correct cataloging and indexing of paper documents. This is achieved by comparing input information with the contents of the cover page of a paper document to account for human input errors.

Medium-range forecast system and method for low temperature, rain and snow and freezing weather based on atmospheric variable physical decomposition

The invention discloses a medium-range forecast system and method for cold, rainy and snowy weather based on atmospheric variable physical decomposition. By utilizing the atmospheric space three-dimensional multivariable and time continuous grid data outputted in the past observed, the current observed and the medium-range numerical weather prediction modes, and the physical decomposition of the climate and the weather disturbance quantity, a causality between the regional sustained low temperature, rain and snow and freezing extreme weather events and the weather disturbance prior to and during the events is established in the method. According to the invention, a physical decomposition of the climate seasonal variation field and the day-to-day weather disturbance field is carried out according to the data of day-to-day three-dimensional space grid point temperature, altitude and wind and the like of the atmosphere from the troposphere to the stratosphere in the northern hemisphere for nearly 30 years, and a database for the atmospheric climate field and the weather disturbance field can be established; and a historical database of the low temperature, rain and snow and freezing weather in south China is established according to the data of day-to-day temperature and precipitation from the national meteorological station for nearly 50 years. The invention provides not only an inquiring system for historical low temperature, rain and snow and freezing weather events, but also a forecasting system for medium-range low temperature, rain and snow and freezing weather events.

Operating system for a motorized barrier operator

An operating system which utilizes a multi-functional wall station for a motorized barrier includes an operator for controlling movement of a barrier between various positions. The operator may receive signals from a wireless or wired wall station transmitter, a wireless keyless entry device and / or a portable remote transmitter device. The multi-function wall station provides for selective concealment of certain switches or buttons which are not commonly used in the day-to-day operation of a wall station. For example, the up / down switch may be actuated by a hinged cover which conceals other selected operational buttons and wherein those operational buttons are only accessed upon opening of the hinged cover. The wall station also provides a periodic lighting element so as to easily direct the user to push the hinge cover to initiate up / down movement of the barrier. The multi-function wall station also provides for an operational selection wherein the door may be closed in a normal manner; by an auto-close feature, wherein the door closes after a predetermined period of time; or a RF block mode, wherein the station prevents transmission of any remote radio frequency signals to the operating system. The auto-close feature may only be enabled upon actuation of a keyless entry device so as to allow the user to re-enter the garage in the unfortunate circumstance of being locked out of the garage.
