Method and system for tracking and providing incentives for time and attention of persons and for timing of performance of tasks

A method for tracking and rewarding the desirable activities, including providing time and attention of individuals, and performing of tasks at desired times, includes providing an incentive rewards program. Individuals, groups, companies, or families are enrolled in a program. Interactions, including in-person sales presentations, viewing of pre-recorded videos, visits to stores and other facilities, and connections to internet websites are recorded. The level of attention provided by individuals during interactions may be measured directly or by proxies, and rewards are provided in greater amounts for greater lengths of interactions and for higher levels of attention. The timing of performance of tasks, including for example early payment of bills, particularly utility bills may be tracked, and rewarded. Points may be redeemed for goods and services, including include entry in a drawing, enhanced likelihood of winning in a drawing, and enhanced prizes in a drawing. Various factors may be included in determining the number of time points awarded, including the time of day and day of week of accumulation sessions, the length of the accumulation sessions, the activities and tasks accomplished, and purchases completed. The formula may also award a varying number of time points depending on the individual's background profile characteristics, including, but not limited to previous purchase history and previous responses to offers of time points. A central program administrator may maintain records relating to the backgrounds of each enrolled individual, and record awards and administer redemption of awards for earned time points.

Method for distributed acquisition of data from computer-based network data sources

A method for facilitating efficient automated acquisition of data from computer-based network data sources, such as Internet websites, by means of one or more data aggregation servers and a distributed network of one or more client computers (each operated by and/or on behalf of one or more end users), that does not trigger "trespass on chattels" protection, violate copyright protection of database compilations of non-copyright data or allow data sources to easily detect automated data acquisition. In a specific embodiment, each user runs a java applet within their Internet browser that frequently polls a server connected to a database storing the user's preferences. Based on the user's preferences and other data stored in the database, the server generates requests (each to be issued by the client machine to a particular website) and tells the user's applet to issue those requests. Response(s) (or a processed version of those responses) returned to the server may be used by the client machine and/or returned to the server where they may be parsed, stored in the database, made available to the user (and, potentially, other users) and may trigger the server to generate follow-on requests. This method has many potential uses, including, but certainly not limited to, the aggregation of real estate data from numerous websites for homebuyers.

Unified geographic database and method of creating, maintaining and using the same

The present invention involves a Universal Geographic Database (“UGD”). The UGD is an automated, central or distributed, registry of real-world locations and location-related information for businesses and other entities, analogous to the registry of domain names for Internet and web sites. By this central registry, businesses and other entities are facilitated to post their location and location-related information in a single place, for all users who need or want it; and users can refer to this single place, via the Internet, Web, and other telecommunications devices, to obtain accurate, complete and timely location and location-based information about the registered businesses and other entities. Each record of the UGD is keyed by a proprietary location address (PLA) based on the World Geographic Referencing System (WGRS), and optionally may have one or more proprietary location addresses (PLAs), which also may serve as keys. Associated with the PLA keys, each UGD record generally includes the full name for the business or other entity, its street address, and miscellaneous contact information (e.g., telephone number, facsimile number, e-mail address, internet website address, wireless website address). Other more dynamic, customized information (e.g., store hours, credit cards accepted, inventory, prices, specials, hours, parking) also may be available in the UGD record or linked to the UGD record. Users of any device or service can access the UGD through one or more location name servers (LNS), which can provide access to the UGD or other location-based information linked to the UGD or LNS. Based on the WGRS, PLAs provide, in addition to unique keys for UGD records, a user-friendly notation for location naming in the real-world and on all types of location-sensitive electronic devices, from web phones to in-car navigation systems. Given the UGD, these ULA/PLAs are as important to real-world businesses as their domain names because these WGRS addresses drive real-world commerce to physical business locations just as domain names drive e-commerce Internet or web sites.

Chroma-key event photography messaging

The invention comprises an entertaining digital chroma-key video photography event (“photo event”) wherein at least one photo subject is placed in front of a green screen background. The participant is photographed while moving or speaking in response to verbal prompts or from viewing action in a simultaneously shown interactive composite of the participant with the substitute and moving background. The participant may be provided with a still photo produced from the video or photographed simultaneously with the video. The participant may view or retrieve the full video or additional still photos by logging onto an Internet website, intranet or other computer network utilizing a handheld device such as a mobile phone or personal digital assistant (PDA). The invention also comprises use of multiple substitute images wherein there may be at least a substitute background and a substitute foreground. The image of the participant appears in the resulting composite as variably being in an intermediate position, the foreground or background. The invention also comprises a method of surveying individuals. The individuals responding to survey questions may be participants of the photo event or others, e.g., the parents of adolescent children. The individual are prompted to respond in exchange for or at the time of receipt of the video or photo.

Method and apparatus for geolocation of a network user

A database correlating the geographic locations of users of a network to the network address through which the users access the network is maintained and used to infer the geographic location of other users of the network that access the website through the same IP addresses. An Internet website operator may generate such a database from home or business address information self-reported by users of the website. If a plurality of users that access a website through the same IP address have self-reported information as to their geographic location to a website operator, that information collectively provides information as to the likely geographic location and the geographic diversity of other users that access the network through that IP address. Accordingly, such information is used to infer the extent to which a given IP address is likely to correlate to any particular geographic area and the particular area. Additionally, a website operator that has information indicative of the veracity of the self-reported location information may use that information to rate the likelihood that the self-reported location information for a given user is truthful and then use that rating to provide an even more accurate rating of the likelihood that an inferred location of a user is in a given location.

Certificate of deposit portfolio system and method

A certificate of deposit (“CD”) portfolio system and method to attract institutional investors through dealers to CD issuing small to medium sized community deposit taking institutions. The central entities of the system include a system operator and a system clearing house. The system operator contacts and signs up the institutions to become a part of the system. These institutions are community banks that are too small to individually attract institutional investors. It also contacts and signs up dealers and then unitizes FDIC insured CD's into single investment instrument portfolios which the dealers then market to their institutional investor clientele. The clearing house is in communication with the system operator, the institutions and the dealers to act as an agent facilitating transactions by issuing the CD's, handling funds, settling transactions, and acting as custodian/trustee for all transactions. The invention includes a system operator controlled internet website to provide access to information to for the use of CD issuing banks, the system clearing house, the system operator and the dealers. In effect the invention creates a meeting place for small banks to pool their FDIC insured CD's together into single investment instrument portfolios large enough to attract institutional investors at favorable interest rates because of the credit enhancement resulting from full FDIC insurance of the portfolio. This is achieved because the system and method prevent exceeding the $100,000.00 FDIC insurance limit per investor per bank.
