A permanent marker or indelible marker is a type of marker pen that is used to create permanent or semi-permanent writing on an object. In general, the ink comprises a main carrier solvent, a glyceride, a pyrrolidone, a resin and a colorant, making it water resistant. It is capable of writing on a variety of surfaces from paper to metal to stone. They come in a variety of tip sizes (ultra fine to wide), shapes (chisel point, bullet tip, and wide bristle), and colors (metallic, or ultraviolet reactive). Like spray paint, these markers contain volatile organic compounds which evaporate to dry the ink. Due to compounds such as toluene and xylene often being present in permanent markers, they have a potential for abuse as a recreational drug.

A dental measurement device is disclosed that includes a mouthpiece having a bracket attached thereto and extending outward therefrom. A bite registration compound is applied to the mouthpiece and the mouthpiece is positioned in a patient's oral cavity. The bracket extends outward in front of the patient's face. The bracket includes a vertically oriented planar attachment surface to which measurement devices such as planar rulers are readily attached using adhesives or mechanical fasteners. The rulers include reference markings. The rulers are positioned prior to attachment such that the reference markings align with the anterior midline and incisal edge locations of the patient. Such reference positions are then available for later use in fabricating dental restorations. Alternatively, anterior midline and incisal edge locations are identified by application of permanent markings to the rulers.

Aqueous hard surface cleaners based on terpenes and fatty acid derivatives

Aqueous hard surface cleaner compositions useful for removing permanent ink are disclosed. The compositions comprise 75 to 99 wt. % of water; 0.1 to 5 wt. % of a monoterpene; 0.1 to 5 wt. % of a C10-C17 fatty acid derivative; and 0.1 to 5 wt. % of one or more surfactants. The fatty acid derivative is selected from N,N-dialkyl amides, N,N-dialkyl esteramines, and N,N-dialkyl amidoamines. Preferably, a base such as sodium carbonate or monoethanolamine is also included. The invention includes concentrates comprising the non-aqueous components recited above, as well as other applications for the cleaners and concentrates such as graffiti removers and permanent ink erasers. The combination of a monoterpene and certain fatty acid derivatives, especially fatty N,N-dialkyl amides, unexpectedly enables even dilute aqueous compositions to rapidly decolorize black permanent marker from hard, non-porous surfaces.
