Hybrid Periodic Cellular Material Structures, Systems, and Methods For Blast and Ballistic Protection

Structures based upon periodic cellular materials that provide a potential for defeating combinations of both air blast loading and ballistic attack either sequentially or simultaneously, or combination of both. The cellular structures may also be configured to meet the stiffness and strength support requirements of particular vehicle or other applications, systems or structures. The armor is therefore potentially able to support normal service loads and defeat blast and ballistic threats when necessary. The structure provides for using efficient load support capabilities of the material (without a high armor protection level) in low threat conditions, as well as the ability to modify the system to increase its level protection to a desired or required level. This would reduce the weight of the protection system in normal (low threat) conditions which reduces vehicle wear and tear, as well as cost savings in fabrication of applicable structures or systems.

Anti-collision vessel with elastic frame structure

The invention discloses an anti-collision vessel with an elastic frame structure. The anti-collision vessel with the elastic frame structure overcomes the defects that at present, after ships collide with each other, the ships crack and are damaged, and weld joints are disengaged. The anti-collision vessel with the elastic frame structure is characterized in that a vessel body structure is an integrated elastic frame type structure, a hull, a deck and a framework of the vessel are made of elastic high-strength materials, the hull is in the shape of an oval arc, focal points of stress are removed, the framework is of an arc shape or wavy shape according to the shape of the hull, and the deck is of a double-layer structure. The same principle can be applied to modification that an elastic protective layer for collision resistance is additionally arranged on an existing ship, and the collision resistance performance of the ship can be greatly improved. The whole vessel has the micro elastic deformation function, after the nose or the stern or the two sides of the vessel are collided, the vessel body can have corresponding micro elastic deformation under the action of impact force, instantaneous impact energy in the collision process can be buffered and absorbed, and the collision resistance security coefficient of the vessel can be greatly increased. The elastic structure of the vessel cannot influence normal traveling and the bearing capacity of the vessel.

Deadrise-altering adjunct for marine hull bottom

As typically embodied, the present invention's add-on device includes two wedge-shaped structural components that are oppositely congruent and symmetrically connected. In profile, the device describes a pair of nearly triangular quadrilateral figures that are enantiomorphs (mirror images) with respect to the linear bisector (mirror line) at which they join. The device's V-angular upper surface defines the same V-angularity (“deadrise”) as does a V-angular hull bottom, the device thus fitting beneath the hull bottom. The device's V-angular lower surface defines a different angularity, which is imparted to the hull bottom when the device is attached thereto. According to typical inventive practice, the device alters the hull bottom's V-angularity by at least 1° and, at least, covers approximately 100% of the hull bottom's widthwise expanse along approximately 50% or more of the hull bottom's lengthwise expanse. The device modifies a marine vessel's hydrodynamics and / or hydrostatics, and may provide armor and / or wear benefits.
