The label defect detecting method comprises the steps that image acquisition is conducted on a printed label; superposition is conducted on standard characters and all characters, to be compared with corresponding characters, on the label one by one, and similarity values are worked out; if the similarity value with the maximum sum result is larger than or equal to a first threshold value, the standard character corresponding to the similarity value with the maximum sum result is used as a character to be compared with the corresponding character, the current coordinates of the character to be compared with the corresponding character are recorded, whether the similarity value of the character to be compared with the corresponding character is smaller than a preset second threshold value, if yes, superposition is conducted on the corresponding standard character and the character to be compared with the corresponding standard character, and the number of times of the fact that the product of the corresponding standard character and the character to be compared with the corresponding standard character is zero is worked out, and the positions with the products being zero are connected, so that a defect area is formed; if the number of times of the fact that the product of the corresponding standard character and the character to be compared with the corresponding standard character is larger than a preset threshold value, the area of the defective area is larger than a preset fourth threshold value, and then color marking is conducted on the defective area. By the adoption of the label defect detecting method, the character defects appearing in the label can be recognized, and the comparison efficiency is high.
