Method and system for controlling movement of a digging dipper

A new method for controlling movement of a digging dipper includes providing an earthmoving machine with two drive systems for moving the dipper along two respective paths. Also provided is a control apparatus having a reference axis and a knob mounted for movement between a first, repose position and a maximum position spaced from the repose position by a maximum displacement dimension. The knob is displaced along a control axis to a second position which is spaced from the repose position by an actual displacement dimension less than the maximum displacement dimension. The drive systems are energized and the dipper is powered along a digging axis generally parallel to the control axis. A new apparatus for controlling movement of the dipper has a single control knob having a repose position and also has first and second motion transducers mechanically coupled to the knob. In a Cartesian coordinate system, the repose position is at the origin, the first transducer provides a first output signal when the knob is displaced along the "X" axis and the second transducer provides a second output signal when the knob is deflected from the repose position along the "Z" axis.

Pistol with firing pin locking mechanism

A pistol including a mechanism that locks firing pin of the pistol. The firing pin locking mechanism may include a stopping member which may be selectively moved by a user of the pistol between first and second positions, and a movable blocking member that may be engaged with a forwardly-movable firing pin. A biasing member such as a spring may be provided to bias the blocking member into engagement with the firing pin. In one embodiment, the blocking member arrests or blocks the forward motion of the firing pin to prevent the firing pin from striking a loaded cartridge and discharging the pistol. In a possible first activated position, the stopping member prevents the firing pin blocking member from being operably disengaged from the firing pin, thereby preventing the firing pin from moving forward to strike a cartridge. In a possible second deactivated position, the stopping member allows the firing pin blocking member to be disengaged from the firing pin by normal operation of the pistol trigger system to allow the pistol to be discharged. The firing pin locking mechanism may further include a locking member to allow a pistol user to lock the stopping member in the first position or second position.

Codling moth trap

A black light trap which will kill codling moths and will prevent strikes in apple and pear orchards. The device includes a solar panel that will charge batteries throughout the day and then a timer will turn on the light at night that will attract the codling moth into the zap screen that will kill them. The unit is mounted on a pole that is long enough to place the unit above the tree line so the moths are attracted away from the trees and has an outer screen that has a mesh size large enough to allow a moth to enter the unit, but small enough to keep them trapped long enough so that the moth will be attracted to a killing screen located in the unit and surrounding the light.

Integrated Bird-Aircraft Strike Prevention System - IBSPS

An airborne apparatus that employs an advanced computer to analyze bird and aircraft positioning data, programmed to issue a warning about an impending strike, thereby creating the ultimate Bird-Aircraft Strike Prevention System. This system will constantly process the bird positioning data gathered by the Radar / Infrared sensors. In case of a bird-aircraft strike danger the system will immediately alert the pilot as well as Air Traffic Control, and, compute the necessary course correction required to avoid the collision. The advantages of the system include the ability to prevent bird strikes and instantaneously compute an alternative course or action necessary to avoid the bird-aircraft impact. Additionally, because the IBSPS is capable of being airborne, the aircraft will be protected from bird-strikes throughout the entire flight, even in absence of ground systems. Furthermore, the ability to integrate all IBSPS equipped airplanes significantly increases area coverage and enhances the safety of Air Traffic System.

A retraction apparatus and method are provided including slider assemblies for being slidably connected to a retractor body with end portions of the slider assemblies disposed within a central retractor opening. A retractor blade is slidably connected to one of the slider assembly end portions such that the depth of the retractor blade can be readily adjusted. Once the retractor blade is at the desired depth within the incision, a handle is pivoted to a locked position to fix the blade relative to the slider assembly. A cantilever lock between the blade and the slider assembly pivots the blade relative to the slider assembly to fix the blade thereto. In one form, the retractor body has a substantially flat surface configured to be placed adjacent a bone and slide connections which position slider assemblies such that the connected blades avoid contact with the bone during retraction.

Free-Piston Engine

A multicylinder internal combustion free-piston engine (FPE) with synchronized reciprocating plungers. The invention provides a solution for the problem of the slow engine speed typical of FPE's with heavy plunger mass. Bounce chambers fitted with sleeve valves control the engine's speed and stroke length. The invention's configuration prevents piston head-strikes and operates at standard compression ratios. Piston “pop-top” intake valves allow uniflow scavenging and connecting rod oil channels provide lubrication with no combustion chamber contamination. Poppet combustion head valves are operated by linear cams attached to the plungers. Hydraulic valve actuators implement variable valve timing under computer control.
