This invention discloses a novel virulent
Salmonella phage vB_Sal_SM6 and its phage cocktail composition. Phage vB_Sal_SM6 exhibits lytic activity against multiple serotypes of
Salmonella. A phage cocktail prepared by mixing phage vB_Sal_SM6 with phage vB_VpaP_G1 achieved a
lysis rate of 98.11% against 53
Salmonella strains.
In vivo experiments showed that this phage cocktail, administered via drinking water, significantly reduced the number of Salmonella in laying hen
feces, achieving a bactericidal rate of 99.59%. It improved growth performance decline,
liver function damage, egg quality decline, and intestinal mucosal damage caused by
Salmonella infection, without adverse effects on healthy laying hens. The phage and its cocktail provided by this invention have a broad host spectrum, high safety, and significant
antibacterial effect, making them suitable for the prevention and control of
Salmonella infection in poultry and showing promising application prospects.
