This invention discloses a novel virulent Salmonella phage vB_Sal_SM6 and its phage cocktail composition. Phage vB_Sal_SM6 exhibits lytic activity against multiple serotypes of Salmonella. A phage cocktail prepared by mixing phage vB_Sal_SM6 with phage vB_VpaP_G1 achieved a lysis rate of 98.11% against 53 Salmonella strains. In vivo experiments showed that this phage cocktail, administered via drinking water, significantly reduced the number of Salmonella in laying hen feces, achieving a bactericidal rate of 99.59%. It improved growth performance decline, liver function damage, egg quality decline, and intestinal mucosal damage caused by Salmonella infection, without adverse effects on healthy laying hens.
