Compliant, ortho-planar, linear motion spring

An ortho-planar spring has a platform movably coupled to a base and being movable linearly with respect to the base along at least a portion of an axial direction perpendicular to both a base surface and a platform surface. A resilient and flexible connecting structure is connected to and between the base and platform. The connecting structure is bendable to develop (i) an axial force along the axial direction to bias the platform in a stable position with respect to the base, and (ii) non-axial forces which substantially sum to zero to preserve the orientation of the platform with respect to the base. Thus, the spring is very compact and does not have rotation between the deflecting ends. The spring may be associated with a valve opening, and a button for restricting flow through the valve opening, to bias the button at a position with respect to the valve opening.

At least a portion of the case hardened section has been removed to a depth sufficient to expose a non-carburized layer of the iron-based alloy. A hard metal alloy slurry is disposed on the non-carburized layer and forms a metallurgical bond between the non-carburized layer and the coated unfused slurry by fusing the hard metal alloy. The thickness of the unfused slurry is adjusted to be from 1.67 to 2.0 times a final thickness of the wear-resistant coating. The wear-resistant coating comprises a fused, metal alloy comprising at least 60% iron, cobalt, nickel, or alloys thereof. The portion of the outer surface with the wear-resistant coating corresponds to a contact surface adapted to engage with a drive sprocket in the endless track of the track-type vehicle.

Heat exchanger leak detection using mass gas flow metering

Apparatus and methods for detecting leaks in a heat exchangers use mass gas flow metering. A regulated gas supply passes through a mass flow meter before entering either the product chamber or media chamber of a heat exchanger. The regulated gas supply passes into the heat exchanger through an inlet connection. All other inlets and outlets to the testing chamber are closed and isolated so that the chamber holds an applied pressure. The chamber on the opposite side of the heat exchanger is opened to atmosphere. Once gas fills the chamber and a static pressure is realized, the test begins by simply monitoring gas flow. If no flow is indicated, no flow rate is detected, and there is no detectable leak. Gas flow into the test chamber, at any given flow rate, as sensed by the sensitive mass flow meter, is an indication that leakage between the chambers exists.
