1775 results about "Inner loop" patented technology

In computer programs, an important form of control flow is the loop which causes a block of code to be executed more than once. A common idiom is to have a loop nested inside another loop, with the contained loop being commonly referred to as the inner loop. Two main types of loop exist and they can be nested within each other to, possibly, any depth as required. The two types are for loop and while loop. Both are slightly different but may be interchanged. Research has shown that performance of the complete structure of a loop with an inner loop is different when compared with a loop without an inner loop. Indeed, even the performance of two loops with different types of inner loop, where one is a for loop and the other a while loop, are different.

Catheter with coiled multi-lumen heat transfer extension

A catheter includes a sealed multi-lumen heat transfer extension designed to internally circulate a coolant, and thereby cool tissue or fluid surrounding the catheter. The heat transfer extension includes a tube having a distally positioned region that coils about the tube's longitudinal axis. The tube houses multiple lumens running longitudinally along the tube. These lumens include one or more supply lumens and one or more return lumens. A distal fluid exchange reservoir resides at the tube's tip, for the purpose of redirecting fluid from the supply lumen(s) to the return lumen(s). The heat transfer extension may include a shape memory structure causing the heat transfer extension to vary its shape according to temperature. Namely, the extension assumes a coiled shape under predetermined shape-active temperatures, and it assumes a non-coiled shape under other predetermined shape-relaxed temperatures. The catheter also includes an interface having supply and return lines to provide coolant to the heat transfer extension, and remove coolant returning therefrom. To connect the supply/return lines with the supply/return lumens, the invention may include a fluid transfer housing. Optionally, one or more of the lumens may be configured as flow-through lumens to exchange fluids with the patient.

Adaptive method and apparatus for forecasting and controlling neurological disturbances under a multi-level control

InactiveUS7146218B2Avoid injuryPrevent and avoid seizureElectroencephalographyElectrotherapyFeature setPupil
A method and apparatus for forecasting and controlling neurological abnormalities in humans such as seizures or other brain disturbances. The system is based on a multi-level control strategy. Using as inputs one or more types of physiological measures such as brain electrical, chemical or magnetic activity, heart rate, pupil dilation, eye movement, temperature, chemical concentration of certain substances, a feature set is selected off-line from a pre-programmed feature library contained in a high level controller within a supervisory control architecture. This high level controller stores the feature library within a notebook or external PC. The supervisory control also contains a knowledge base that is continuously updated at discrete steps with the feedback information coming from an implantable device where the selected feature set (feature vector) is implemented. This high level controller also establishes the initial system settings (off-line) and subsequent settings (on-line) or tunings through an outer control loop by an intelligent procedure that incorporates knowledge as it arises. The subsequent adaptive settings for the system are determined in conjunction with a low-level controller that resides within the implantable device. The device has the capabilities of forecasting brain disturbances, controlling the disturbances, or both. Forecasting is achieved by indicating the probability of an oncoming seizure within one or more time frames, which is accomplished through an inner-loop control law and a feedback necessary to prevent or control the neurological event by either electrical, chemical, cognitive, sensory, and/or magnetic stimulation.

System and method for servo control of nonlinear electromagnetic actuators

Servo control using ferromagnetic core material and electrical windings is based on monitoring of winding currents and voltages and inference of magnetic flux, a force indication; and magnetic gap, a position indication. Third order nonlinear servo control is split into nested control loops: a fast nonlinear first-order inner loop causing flux to track a target by varying a voltage output; and a slower almost linear second-order outer loop causing magnetic gap to track a target by controlling the flux target of the inner loop. The inner loop uses efficient switching regulation, preferably based on controlled feedback instabilities, to control voltage output. The outer loop achieves damping and accurate convergence using proportional, time-integral, and time-derivative gain terms. The time-integral feedback may be based on measured and target solenoid drive currents, adjusting the magnetic gap for force balance at the target current. Incorporation of permanent magnet material permits the target current to be zero, achieving levitation with low power, including for a monorail deriving propulsion from the levitation magnets. Linear magnetic approximations lead to the simplest controller, but nonlinear analog computation in the log domain yields a better controller with relatively few parts. When servo-controlled solenoids provide actuation of a pump piston and valves, electronic LC resonance measurements determine liquid volume and gas bubble volume.

Method and apparatus for controlling reverse link interference rise and power control instability in a wireless system

InactiveUS6968201B1Call quality will deterioratePreserve quality of serviceEnergy efficient ICTPower managementInterference (communication)Transmitted power
A system and a method for reverse link power control in a wireless communications network generates power adjust commands for mobiles being served by a network base station in a centralized manner by considering overall system performance when an increased interference condition is detected. In one implementation, a base station power control processor adopts a modified reverse inner loop power control (RILPC) and/or a reverse outer loop power control (ROLPC) algorithm when an increased interference condition is detected. According to the modified RILPC algorithm, a percentage of power-up adjust commands which would normally be generated when Eb/No measurements for served mobiles do not meet target Eb/No levels are converted to power down-adjust commands, thereby forcing some mobiles to reduce transmit power, at least temporarily, to constrain interference. When the increased interference condition persists, the percentage of power-up adjust commands which are converted to power-down commands may be changed. According to the modified ROLPC algorithm, the power control processor adjusts target Eb/No levels in a centralized manner based on an overall system state so that only a limited number of target Eb/No levels are allowed to increase when frame erasures occur. By preventing a percentage of target Eb/No level increases, at least temporarily, when frame erasures occur, a percentage of power up-adjust commands are avoided. Therefore, a similar effect to that achieved by the modified RILPC is achieved. In accordance with still a further implementation of the present invention, the modified RILPC algorithm may be used in combination with the modified ROLPC algorithm to provide greater resistance to increased interference conditions.
