Speckle-image-based optical position transducer having improved mounting and directional sensitivities

A speckle readhead includes a light source that outputs light towards an optically rough surface. Light scattered from this surface contains speckles. The scattered light is imaged onto an image detector, captured and stored. Subsequently, a second image is captured and stored. The two images are repeatedly compared at different offsets in a displacement direction. The comparison having the highest value indicates the amount of displacement between the readhead and the surface that occurred between taking the two images. An optical system of the readhead includes a lens and an aperture. The aperture can be round, with a diameter chosen so that the average size of the speckles is approximately equal to, or larger than, the dimensions of the elements of the image detector. The dimension of the aperture in a direction perpendicular to the direction of displacement can be reduced. Thus, the imaged speckles in that direction will be greater than the dimension of the image detector elements in that direction. Such a readhead is relatively insensitive to lateral offsets. The lens can be a cylindrical lens that magnifies the relative motion along the direction of displacement but does not magnify relative motions in the direction perpendicular to the direction of displacement. The optical system can also be telecentric. Thus, the readhead is relatively insensitive to both separation and relative motions between the readhead and the surface. The light source can be modulated to prevent smearing the speckles across the image detector. The light source can be strobed to freeze the image.

The present invention relates to a calliper of the king used to measure tree diameters, comprising a fixed scale or a graduated rule (2) along which a slide (3) is movable, wherein the calliper includes a leg (4) attached to one end of said rule and a leg (5) attached to the slide (3), wherein measuring of said diameter is effected between said legs, and wherein said calliper includes an electronic unit for measuring the position of the slide (3) along the rule (2) and for storing measurement values and other desired data. The invention is characterised in that the graduated rule (2) includes a longitudinally extending internal cavity (8); in that a measuring element includes an electrically conductive wire (10) extending in said cavity (8) and attached to oth ends of the rule (2); in that the part of the slide (3) located at the rule (2) includes a permanent magnet (11); in that the wire (10) co-acts with a piezo crystal (19) in the close proximity of said one end (13); in that respective ends (13, 16) of said wire (10) are connected electrically to a pulse generator which functions to generate short electric pulses of predetermined duration; and in that the calliper includes detector means (18) which co-acts with the piezo crystal (19) and which is adapted to detect a geometric change in the wire (10), wherein said piezo crystal functions to emit an electric pulse in response to said geometric change.

The invention discloses a level vernier caliper which is characterized in that the level vernier caliper comprises an upper arm and a lower arm which pass through a middle pore and are connected together by a major axis; the upper arm and the lower arm pass through a hole at one end and are connected at the lower ends of a main scale and an auxiliary scale by a minor axis; the main scale and a pad are arranged in a corresponding groove of the auxiliary scale; a structure for regulating a groove clearance of the main scale in the auxiliary scale is provided; a vernier and a pressure pad are arranged on the top of the notch of the auxiliary scale; a structure for adjusting and locking the exact position of the vernier on the auxiliary scale is provided. The main scale is provided with a plurality of scribed lines in increments of 1mm within limits; and the auxiliary scale is provided with 51 scribed lines in increments of 0.98mm; in a plane where a measuring round ball center passing through the upper arm and the lower arm is perpendicular to the major axis, the axel centers of the two minor axes arranged on the main scale and the auxiliary scale and the measuring round ball center passing through the upper arm and the lower arm are on a circle taking the axle center of the major axis as the center of the circle and are symmetry for the axle center of the major axis; the connecting line of the axel centers of the two minor axes is parallel to the movement direction of the auxiliary scale opposite to the main scale. The level vernier caliper can conveniently and quickly measure the diameter of a pinhole at the bottom of a micropore of mechanical spare parts or the diameter of an annular groove of the pinhole.
