In one embodiment, the method features sensing in a first device both a start-up vibration at a start-up time after the first device is affixed to a second device to be monitored and a subsequent vibration level at a subsequent time after the start-up time, and providing both a start-up vibration level signal containing information about the start-up vibration level of the second device, and a subsequent vibration level signal containing information about the subsequent vibration level of the second device; and monitoring in the first device the condition of operation of the second device based on a comparison of the start-up vibration level signal in relation to the subsequent vibration level signal. The apparatus may take the form of one or more modules and/or chipset for performing the steps and functionality of the aforementioned method.

Disclosed is a solar cell having a collecting electrode on one main surface of a photoelectric conversion section. A low-cost, high-temperature heat exchanger is made from a notched piece of metal, the metal being folded back and forth upon itself to form a monolith. The notches in the metal piece create openings, communicating with distinct sides of the monolith. Ducts are attached to the openings. Embodiments may be used to provide determination of geologic properties from a variety of geologic media samples, such as cuttings, core samples, etc.

This invention has as its object to generate print data using minimum resources in a terminal. A browser controller acquires a predetermined Web page from an Internet print server, and inputs the URL of a Web page to be printed and a print mode on that page. Printer information is transmitted to the server together with the input information. The server reads a Web page specified by the received URL, generates print data in a format that the printer can print in accordance with the printer information and print mode, and transmits that print data to the browser controller. The browser controller transmits the print data to the printer to print it out while receiving the print data.

A liquid crystal display is provided with a detection range on its screen.
