The invention provides an image white balance processing method and a device. The image white balance processing method comprises acquiring color value data of pixel units of an image. Whether each pixel unit is in a color temperature deviation threshold range or not can be judged according to the color value data of the pixel units. The pixel units which are in the color temperature deviation threshold range are chosen as reference gray points. An average color value of the reference gray points and the number of the reference gray points are calculated. Whether color temperature information of the image is valid or not can be judged according to the number of the reference gray points and the color temperature deviation threshold. If the color temperature information of the image is valid, a white balance correction coefficient is calculated according to the average color value of the reference gray points, and a corrected color value of the each pixel unit is calculated according to the white balance correction coefficient. If the color temperature information of the image is invalid, the corrected color value of the each pixel unit is calculated according to the white balance correction coefficient of a previous image, and the color temperature deviation threshold is adjusted. The image white balance processing device processes the white balance of the images according to the image white balance processing method. The image white balance processing method and a device have the advantages of processing the white balance of the images accurately and reducing calculated quantity.

An electronic camera controls an imaging section to generate a test image without flash and a main image with flash. Then, the electronic camera judges correlation between histogram distributions of the test image and the main image. If the correlation between the histogram distributions is low, the electronic camera judges that the flash illumination is uneven and performs white balance adjustments, placing greater importance on the color temperature of the flash. Conversely, if the correlation between the histogram distributions is high, the electronic camera judges that the flash illumination is uniform and performs white balance adjustments, placing greater importance on the color temperature of the main image.

A more preferable WB gain is calculated during strobe illuminated photography. When a WB gain for an image captured through strobe illuminated photography is calculated, the degree of contribution of strobe light is first estimated. When the degree of contribution is estimated, the image is first divided into a plurality of blocks, and typical brightness values and typical color values of the respective blocks are determined (S23). Subsequently, the highest-brightness block among the blocks analogous to the color of strobe light is identified as a strobe color block (S26). When there is a strobe color block, the degree of contribution of strobe light is estimated on the basis of the position of the strobe color block, a difference between the brightness of the strobe color block and the brightnesses of other blocks, and the like (S32 to S48). Meanwhile, when there is no strobe color block, the degree of contribution is estimated on the basis of the position of the highest-brightness block having the highest typical brightness value among the plurality of blocks (S28, S30).
