Hollow fan blade for gas turbine engine

Hollow fan blades for turbo fan gas turbine engines are formed of two separate detail halves. Each detail half has a plurality of cavities and ribs machined out to reduce weight. These detail halves are subsequently bonded and given an airfoil shape in the forming operation. In the present invention, the ribs are oriented biased to provide stiffness as needed in different sections of the fan blade with smooth transitions between regions. The result is a blade with good protection from a wide spectrum of external threats.

Hollow fan blade for gas turbine engine

Hollow fan blades for turbo fan gas turbine engines are formed of two separate detail halves. Each detail half has a plurality of cavities machined out to reduce weight and form ribs. The ribs extend continuously and without intersecting one another in order to facilitate machining. The ribs extend in different directions in different regions of the detail half. In at least one region, the ribs extend in a serpentine pattern, such that concatenated rib segments are substantially perpendicular to one another, thereby providing stiffness in multiple directions.

Method for making a hollow fan blade with machined internal cavities

Hollow fan blades for turbo fan gas turbine engines are formed of two separate detail halves. Each detail half has a plurality of cavities and ribs machined out to reduce weight. The floor and opposite interior walls of each cavity are machined simultaneously. The configuration minimizes the number of cutter plunge cuts for the internal cavities, and maximizes cutter size, in order to minimize the time required to machine them. These detail halves are subsequently bonded and given an airfoil shape in the forming operation.

The ribs and cavities do not run solely radially or chordwise, but curve and change direction. The path of each cavity is curved sufficiently to eliminate any regions with long, straight cavities, which would have low inertia in cross sections through the cavity parallel to the rib. Preferably, cavities do not continue straight in any direction for lengths greater than half the blade chord (e.g. leading edge to trailing edge) before curvature causes the rib to intersect cross section.

A joining method for wind turbine blade shells

A method of manufacturing a wind turbine blade is described, the blade being formed from at least a pair of blade shells being joined together. For at least a portion of the wind turbine blade, the blade shells are joined by an overlamination applied between the edges of the blade shells, thereby substantially reducing or eliminating the need for a structural adhesive to join the blade shells, particularly in the area of the leading edge of the blade or the root region of the blade trailing edge. The overlamination can be formed from the same material as the blade shells themselves, thereby minimising the possibility of structural faults or cracks due to differences in materials or stiffness levels at the interface between the blade shells.

Modified flat wall modular insulated concrete form system

InactiveUS6922962B2Maximizing temperature insulating valueLow costBuilding roofsWallsEngineeringInsulating concrete form
Improved, modified flat wall insulating concrete forms similar to a “waffle grid” type for generating posts, beams, and interconnecting webs of concrete. The novel forms incorporate interlocking structure for a plural vertically stacked forms. The forms are provided as angled corner or straight forms having an overall length of four feet. Tie brackets connecting interior and exterior synthetic expanded foam walls of the form have flanges which are embedded within and concealed by the walls. Tie brackets are spaced apart from one another at one foot intervals, and from ends of the interior and exterior walls of the form by distance intervals of six inches. Interior and exterior walls are configured to enclose a void space therebetween. When filled with concrete, the space forms posts, beams, and webs filling openings which would otherwise occur among the posts and beams. The posts and beams, and webs are square or rectangular in cross section, presenting a uniform exterior panel thickness.
