Electrochemical system for analyzing performance and properties of electrolytic solutions

The invention relates to the analysis of the performance and properties of electrochemical processes, and specifically, to electrolytic solutions and electrode processes. The invention discloses a device and a method for obtaining qualitative and quantitative information for the kinetics of the electrode reactions, the transport processes, the thermodynamic properties of the electrochemical processes taking place in the cell. When a deposition reaction takes place, the device provides also valuable information about the relationship between the current density and deposit properties including but not limited to the deposit color, luster, and other aspects of its appearance. The device disclosed herein typically is comprised of a multiplicity of cathodic or anodic regions where one or more electrochemical reactions take place simultaneously, but at a different rate. From the precisely measured segmental currents one can obtain among other process properties: (1) An accurate relationship between the deposit appearance and the current density. This relationship can be used for process diagnostics, troubleshooting, control of concentrations, pH, and additives and contaminants and for optimizing the operating conditions, including the voltage, current, and circulation rate. (2) Quantitative determination of important process parameters including but not limited to, kinetics (e.g., exchange current density, cathodic and anodic transfer coefficients), transport (e.g. conductivity), and thermodynamics (e.g., standard potential). A particularly attractive application of the process is for the quantitative and qualitative processes of alloys plating and for the determination of the relationship between the current efficiency and the applied current density.

Data structure, methods, and computer program products for storing text data strings used to display text information on a display terminal

The present invention provides data structure, methods, and computer programs for storing text data used by a computer program to display information on a display terminal. Importantly, the present invention provides a data structure in which the data strings traditionally stored in the computer program are removed from the computer program and stored in the data structure. The data strings are associated with individual 16 bit identification numbers, called tokens, which are used to indicate the location of the data strings in the data structure. In light of this, the data strings are removed from the source code of the computer program and replaced with tokens that address the data strings in the data structure. As such, to display a data string, the computer program outputs a token associated with the data string and the command to display it to the display management module, and the data string is located in the data structure and displayed on the display terminal. The data structure may include not only ASCII characters, but also extended ASCII characters different from those used in the standard ASCII table and a double byte characters set (DBCS). As such, the data structure supports not only languages that use ASCII and extended ASCII characters, but also graphical languages that use DBCS characters. The data structure also includes font areas for storing font data associated with extended ASCII characters not displayable with the standard ASCII font set in the font module and DBCS characters. In one embodiment, the font area includes only font data for the DBCS characters that are used in the data strings stored in the data structure, thereby minimizing data storage.

Method and apparatus for securely recording and storing data for later retrieval

The present invention is a method and apparatus for securely storing data on a compact disk-like device that can interface with existing compact disk players, digital video disk players and disk drives commonly found on personal computers. The apparatus comprises a compact disk plastic substrate having a microprocessor, a system memory, a data memory and a power source embedded thereon. An optical interface device is embedded on the bottom of the substrate and is electrically connected to the microprocessor. The optical interface device comprises an imaging sensor for receiving data from the laser mechanism of a compact disk drive mechanism to store on the present invention, and a micro mirror array for emulating the pits and lands on a standard compact disk that can be read by the laser mechanism as the data retrieved from the present invention. The method of the present invention consists of both storing data received at the optical interface device in the data memory and transmitting data retrieved from the data memory from the optical interface device. The use of a microprocessor in the transfer of data to and from the data memory enables use of data encryption techniques to encrypt the data stored in the data memory and decrypt date retrieved from the data memory. In addition, passwords may be associated with the data stored in the data memory to further prevent unauthorized access to, or copying of, data stored in the data memory.

Systems, methods, and computer program products for redirecting the display of information from a computer program to a remote display terminal

The present invention provides systems, methods, and computer program products for redirecting the output of the computer program to a remote display terminal. The systems, methods, and computer program products of the present invention provide a method by which all text on a host system may be redirected and displayed at a remote location and representations of graphical images on a host system may be redirected and displayed at a remote location. The system of the present invention includes a display management module stored on a computer-readable medium in communication with an output of the computer program and the remote display terminal. Associated with the display management module are data modules containing text and graphical representation data used by the computer program to display information. The system of the present invention also includes an output redirection handler connected between the display management module and a data communication link to the remote display terminal. Connected to the opposed end of the communication link is a remote display handler for controlling the display of information on the remote display terminal. To redirect the display of information to the remote display terminal, the display management module receives commands to display text and graphical images from the computer program. Based on these commands, the display management module provides commands, text from the data modules, and data indicating size and position of the graphical images to the output redirection handler for displaying information on the remote display terminal. The output redirection handler formats the command and data for transmission across the data communication link, and the remote display handler receives the display data and controls the remote display terminal to display the information.
