An apparatus is disclosed that includes a haptic actuator operatively associated with a pedal assembly of the vehicle, a human-machine interface (HMI) for enabling the driver to select between a plurality of fuel savings settings, and a controller coupled to a data interface in the vehicle and the HMI interface for causing the haptic actuator to provide feedback to the driver when an aspect of vehicle operation crosses at least one of a plurality of speed and acceleration thresholds responsive to the HMI setting. Additionally, a coaching method provides haptic-based feedback that will not interfere with the operation of the vehicle. This method of closed-loop feedback provides a timely signal to the driver in a way that will encourage a change in driver style over time, such as backing off the accelerator pedal to accelerate at a lower rate and braking earlier with less intensity. As not all driver preferences are the same under all conditions, the HMI selector will help coach the driver by providing feedback that best fits their driving preference at the particular time.

Transmission fluid heating using engine exhaust

A heat exchanger integrated into the transmission oil pan transfers heat from post-catalyst exhaust gases to the transmission oil. Inlet and outlet ducts route exhaust gas between the heat exchanger and an exhaust pipe located downstream of the catalyst. The exhaust pipe accommodates a control valve that diverts exhaust gas flow to the heat exchanger during the warm-up phase, or to the tailpipe during steady state operation. A control function is provided to monitor transmission oil temperature and engine operating conditions and to control actuation of the valve. The main input parameter to the control function is the transmission oil temperature.

Wheel creep control of hydraulic hybrid vehicle using regenerative braking

A system according to this invention opposes creep in a hydraulic hybrid motor vehicle. An accumulator contains fluid at high pressure, and a reservoir contains fluid at lower pressure. An engine produces positive torque at the wheels during an engine idle condition, and a pump / motor, driveably connected to the wheels and the engine, has a variable volumetric displacement pumps fluid to the accumulator from the reservoir. A control system determines a magnitude of negative torque transmitted from the wheels to the pump / motor that would exceed the magnitude of positive torque, determines the volumetric displacement of the pump / motor corresponding to the magnitude of negative torque, changes the displacement of the pump / motor to the required displacement, and operates the pump / motor as a pump driven by negative torque from the wheels to pump fluid from the reservoir to the accumulator.

The system also includes a fuel metering unit, which is associated with the high-pressure pump and includes a regulating valve which is actuated electromagnetically. The fuel metering unit is disposed in the high-pressure pump, and the outlet of the regulating valve discharges into the low-pressure region of the high-pressure pump. The above design features make a fuel metering unit possible that is capable of metering the exact quantity of fuel desired in the applicable engine operating state to the high-pressure pump of the CR system.

With the rubber composition of the present invention, the tensile strength of the prepared tread is 25 MPa, and the elongation at break is more than 500%. A low-octane fuel and a high-octane fuel stored in a low-octane fuel tank (5) and a high-octane fuel tank (7), both having known octane numbers, are injected from fuel injection valves (13a, 13b) into an intake port (12) at a mixing proportion that achieves a standard octane number set in accordance with the engine operation state. If knocking occurs during a predetermined steady engine operation state, the knocking is detected by a knock sensor (10b) and, corresponding to the knocking, the ignition timing is retarded from a basic ignition timing. On the basis of the corrected deviation in octane number, a deviation in the mixing proportion of the high-octane fuel is determined with reference to a map. The thus-determined deviation is added to a target mixing proportion computed corresponding to the standard octane number, thereby computing the present mixing proportion.
