The invention relates to a self-alignment additive for a
liquid crystal medium, and a preparation method and application of the self-alignment additive. The self-alignment additive is a compound witha structure represented by the following general formula I. In the general formula I, R represents
alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkenyloxy with 1-10 carbon atoms; the ring A represents 1,4-
phenylene, 1,4-cyclohexylidene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene, or 1,4-
phenylene with 1-4
hydrogen atoms substituted by
fluorine; the ring B represents 1,4-
phenylene, 1,4-cyclohexylidene, or 1,4-phenylene with 1-4
hydrogen atoms substituted by
fluorine; l and m separately represent 0, 1 or 2, and 0<l+m<=3; and n represents 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. The self-matching additive realizes
vertical orientation of liquidcrystal molecules under the condition that no
polyimide (PI) alignment layer is contained. In addition, the compound is low in price and stable in performance, can be widely applied to the field of
liquid crystal display, and has an important application value.
