Row-diagonal parity technique for enabling efficient recovery from double failures in a storage array

A “row-diagonal” (R-D) parity technique reduces overhead of computing diagonal parity for a storage array adapted to enable efficient recovery from the concurrent failure of two storage devices in the array. The diagonal parity is computed along diagonal parity sets that collectively span all data disks and a row parity disk of the array. The parity for all of the diagonal parity sets except one is stored on the diagonal parity disk. The R-D parity technique provides a uniform stripe depth and an optimal amount of parity information.

Spinal implant apparatus and methods

A method of inserting and positioning an intervertebral spacer is provided. The spacer includes a longitudinal axis, an on-axis interface coincident with or parallel to the longitudinal axis, and an off-axis interface angled to the longitudinal axis. The spacer's front end may be curved. The method may include inserting the spacer into the disc space utilizing a tool to engage an on-axis interface and then to engage one or more of the off-axis interfaces, which may be used for further modification of the spacer. The tool is moved substantially along a single insertion direction, which may be substantially parallel to a posterior-anterior axis of the disc space. The method may result in the longitudinal axis of the spacer being perpendicular to the insertion direction, or substantially parallel to a medial-lateral axis of the disc space. The spacer may also be positioned in an anterior aspect of the disc space.

Methods for production of growth-promoting proteins and peptides for kidney epithelial cells

InactiveUS20050095673A1Recovery of renal functionImprove survivalSugar derivativesPeptide/protein ingredientsNucleotideARF - Acute renal failure
Novel growth peptides derived from protein factors having molecular weights of about 22 and 45 kDa stimulate mitogenic activity of epithelial, but not fibroblastic cells, in particular, kidney epithelial cells. A source of the factors is scrape-wounded kidney epithelial cells in culture. Synthetic peptides having sixteen amino acids or less, in particular a hexapeptide, YPQGNH (SEQ ID NO: 2) maintain the mitogenic activity. The peptide AQPYPQGNHEASYG (14-Ser) (SEQ ID NO: 15) is effective in reversing acute renal failure in animals. The growth-promoting characteristics of the 22 and 45 kDa proteins and the peptides are useful in treating and diagnosing patients with kidney disease. Nucleotide sequences that encode the factor are useful to develop probes to locate similar factors, to identify genetic disorders involving the factor, and to produce the factor by genetic recombinant methods. The nucleotide sequences and fragments thereof, are also useful for diagnosis and treatment of kidney disorders.

Nodular cast iron pipe die

The invention discloses a nodular cast iron pipe die which comprises a supporting base, a first annular guide rail and a cast iron pipe die body. The first annular guide rail is connected to the supporting base, the cast iron pipe die is horizontally inserted into the first annular guide rail in a penetrating mode, and the rear end of the cast iron pipe die is rotationally connected into the first annular guide rail. A rotating speed reduction preventing mechanism is connected between the cast iron pipe die and the supporting base. When the rotating speed of the cast iron pipe die driven by the main driving motor is reduced, the centrifugal force is reduced, so that the main magnet block slides back under the action of resilience force of the first connecting spring, the adsorbed iron sliding block is pulled to be separated from the auxiliary magnet block and extruded to the pressure sensing switch, then the position of the auxiliary driving motor is fixed, and after the auxiliary driving motor is started, the pressure sensing switch is pressed to the pressure sensing switch. The auxiliary driving gear drives the cast iron pipe die to continuously rotate at a certain rotating speed, rotating speed recovery and centrifugal force recovery are achieved, and cast iron pipe manufacturing can be continuously carried out conveniently.
