The cello (/ˈtʃɛloʊ/ CHEL-oh; plural celli or cellos) or violoncello (/ˌvaɪələnˈtʃɛloʊ/ VY-ə-lən-CHEL-oh; [vjolonˈtʃɛllo]) is a bowed (and occasionally plucked) string instrument of the violin family.
