945 results about "Emergency light" patented technology

An emergency light is a battery-backed lighting device that switches on automatically when a building experiences a power outage. Emergency lights are standard in new commercial and high occupancy residential buildings, such as college dormitories, apartments, and hotels. Most building codes require that they be installed in older buildings as well.

Emergency lighting remote monitoring and control system

An emergency lighting monitoring and control system controls and monitors the emergency lights in a building. A central control unit automatically schedules self tests for each of the emergency lights and stores the results of the tests in memory. The self tests include tests of the backup power source and the lamp. Some failures are predicted prior to actual failure. Failures are diagnosed and repairs are suggested. Light output is automatically monitored and adjusted. The central control unit generates a report of the self tests and notifies an operator of failures. An operator views test reports, controls the emergency lights, and schedules tests. The system automatically detects newly installed emergency lighting units.

Reaction advantage anti-collision systems and methods

A vehicle anti-collision system and method for is disclosed which provides drivers with additional time in which to react to significant roadway events which often precede accidents. The simplest implementation of the system and method (Phase I) employs a brake pedal mounted sensor packet for determining how hard a driver is braking. Hard braking information is relayed to approaching drivers by means of the reverse lights of the vehicle. Additional implementation phases (II through IV) are described wherein event information is communicated between vehicles over a communications link. Furthermore, additional vehicle information, such as an impact, swerving, emergency light activation, and roadway hazards may be communicated to approaching drivers by the communications link whereby drivers need not see the vehicle that has slammed on its brakes, or otherwise has created or responded to an event, in order to avoid an accident.

Light emitting diode emergency lighting module

The present invention uses “Chip-on-Board” (COB) metal core printed circuit board (PCB) technology in conjunction with high efficiency compact imaging and non-imaging optics to provide an emergency light that is more compact, offers higher performance with respect to luminance levels (higher brightness), longer life, and lower cost relative to systems incorporating pre-packaged LED devices. The thermal impedance between the LED junction and the heat sink is significantly reduced for COB technology by placing the LED die directly on a metal core (or other high thermal conductivity material substrate), thereby increasing temperature dependant life and thermally dependant output power. Additionally, because there is no encapsulant or domed optic over the LED die initially, it is possible to get a much more compact and efficient substantially Etendue (area, solid angle, index squared product) preserving collection optic directly over the die. Cost is significantly reduced for COB configurations due to elimination of the expense of additional components attached to the LED die for the case of pre-packaged LED devices.

Aircraft interior wireless communications system

A wireless communications system suitable for use within an aircraft, such as a part of a wireless emergency lighting system (WELS) is provided. In an aircraft, EXIT signs are located throughout the interior of the aircraft, including the ceiling (general illumination), seats (floor proximity) and EXIT doors (locator / identifier). A wireless communications system uses an integrated lens antenna system that takes advantage of the quantity and location of emergency lights such that any given light will have a direct radio frequency (RF) path to several other lights. A virtual network can be created such that if the path between any two lights becomes disrupted, alternate paths will be constructed under software control.

Position Data Communication Device

The objective of the present invention is to provide accurate position data of a cellular phone utilizing illuminative light based radio communication. In FIG. 1, an emergency light or guided light (illuminating device) (10) on for 24 hours, for example, emits a visible light (illuminative light) modulated based on information of its position. A cellular phone (20) having a visible light receiving unit (a camera, for example) may obtain position data by receiving and demodulating that visible light. When conducting emergency communication (emergency telephone number 110 or 119) with the obtained position data, the position data may be automatically added for data communication in addition to the information by voice.

Scotopically enhanced emergency light and control thereof

System and method are provided for controlling emergency lighting where emergency lights turn on when main source of power goes out for controlling emergency lighting to conserve energy utilized by the emergency light, while maintaining good visibility of the emergency lighting. Solid state lighting, such as LED, is used within an emergency light to add light in blue wavelength region matching the light output to the most sensitive of wavelength response of the human eve to increase color perception and allows faster response time. Electrical current to the device and light output are reduced while LED light tends to increase its blue wavelength component as it is dimmed thus increasing effective light output. After a predetermined time, the light is purposefully dimmed to conserve energy and to allow the eye to slowly and safely adjust to the new lighting conditions. By reducing electrical current, energy storage batteries may be smaller than for similar unit that maintains constant light output.
