A system and method for performing skull based nasal, sinus and/or throat surgery. In the system and method of this invention a cutting accessory is applied to the tissue on which a procedure is to be performed. Simultaneously with the performance of the procedure by the cutting accessory, irrigating solution is discharged from the cutting accessory onto the tissue. The cutting accessory also has a conduit through which the discharged irrigating solution is drawn away from the surgical site. The irrigating solution discharged onto the surgical site facilitates the performance of the surgical procedure. This solution can also be used to remove debris from the distal end of an endoscope employed to view the procedure and/or as a transport media for topically applying medicine to the surgical site.

A therapeutic ocular inlay for treatment of one or more vision defects including a locator structure or depth marker to facilitate location of the inlay post-implant. The locator structure or marker extends at least partially outside a pupil region. The depth or layer at which the inlay is implanted can be determined by locating the depth marker without requiring incisions with the pupil region. The locator structure can be substantially invisible under casual observation, however can be provided with enhanced optical contrast characteristics under selected viewing conditions. The locator is thus unobtrusive, however can be readily located in a clinical setting, for example with artificial UV illumination. The locator can be connected to, e.g., integrally formed with, the inlay or may be a separate component provided in combination with the inlay.

A constraining sheath for use around an endoprosthesis (e.g., a stent device, with or without a graft covering), which may be a balloon expandable endoprosthesis but more preferably is a self-expanding prosthesis. The endoprosthesis is coaxially enclosed within the constraining sheath, which is an outer, disruptable, preferably implantable tubular sheath, preferably made of ePTFE. The constraining sheath and endoprosthesis are preferably mounted together as an assembly on an angioplasty balloon for delivery. Deployment of the endoprosthesis entails inflating the angioplasty balloon to a pressure sufficient to disrupt or break the constraining sheath in a prescribed fashion, thereby allowing a self-expanding endoprosthesis to spontaneously deploy. The constraining sheath of ePTFE may be attached to the endoprosthesis and implanted along with the device, or alternatively attached to the balloon catheter shaft and removed with the balloon catheter.

Disclosed herein are tissue-removal devices and methods for treating spinal diseases using such devices. The tissue-removal devices may comprise a cable and/or extendable elements with a retracted and a deployed configuration. The cable and/or extendable elements may be distally supported and restrained by a support element such that the support element may be pushed transversely away when the extendable element is distally extended into its deployed configuration. An annular cutting element may be provided about the distal end of the extendable element or the support element. Various configurations of the extendable and support elements are described herein, as well as methods of using tissue-removal devices with extendable and support elements coupled by an annular cutting element for treating spinal diseases.

A method for transferring layers containing semiconductor devices and/or circuits to substrates other than those on which these semiconductor devices and/or circuits have been originally fabricated. The method comprises fabricating the semiconductor devices and/or circuits, coating them with a protective layer of photoresist followed by coating with a layer of wax. A special perforated structure is then also wax coated and the waxed surface of the structure is brought into a contact with the waxed surface of photoresist. The original seed substrate is removed and the exposed surface is then coated with adhesive followed by dissolving wax through the openings in the perforated structure and attaching the layer with semiconductor devices and/or circuits to another permanent substrate. As an alternative, a disk-shaped water-soluble structure can be used instead of the perforated structure.

The method and device may, e.g., be used for non-disruptive removal of processors from the enabled physical configuration without any involvement of the operating system. The computer comprises a resource controller configured to control a physical resource pool including the actual physical resources and a capacity virtualizer configured to provide multiple sets of virtual resources from a capacity virtualizer resource pool, whereby the provided sets of virtual resources allow to host independent operating systems concurrently. The method comprises the steps of the resource controller requesting the capacity virtualizer to reduce the capacity virtualizer resource pool, the capacity virtualizer removing resources from the capacity virtualizer resource pool, and the resource controller disabling physical resources corresponding to the resources removed from the capacity virtualizer resource pool.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for attaching cardiac devices onto a natural heart by employing arrays of gripping elements, such as hooks or barbs. The gripping elements are designed to penetrate and lodge themselves in the epicardial tissue in order to secure the device to at least a portion of the surface of the heart muscle. The gripping elements, although designed to penetrate the surface of the heart, have limited depth penetration so as to avoid puncture of blood vessels. An applicator includes a support on one face of which is attached a resiliently deformable applicator element presenting an application surface opposite the support.
