Measurement and trialing system and methods for orthopedic device component selection

The present invention provides tools and methods designed to aid in the placement of artificial facet joints at virtually all spinal levels. One aspect of the present invention is a measurement tool for installing an artificial cephalad facet joint, the tool including a trial marker having a portion configured to be placed in a hole; and a trial body comprising a bore therethrough for slidaby receiving a portion of the trial marker. In some embodiments, the trial body further comprises an arm extending generally radially outward from the bore and configured to contact an opposing spinal prosthesis component. The trial body may further comprise a lower portion configured to be placed in the hole. The trial marker and the trial body are configured to cooperate to indicate a relative positioning between them. This measurement tool assists in the selection and / or configuration of an artificial cephalad facet joint for implantation in a patient. Another aspect is a method of using a spinal prosthesis component selection tool comprising accessing a target anatomy, creating a hole within a portion of the target anatomy, inserting a marker rod of a component selection tool in the hole, slidably adjusting a trial stem body along the marker rod until the trial body contacts an opposing spinal prosthesis component, determining the relative position between the trial body and marker rod, and selecting a component for implantation into the target anatomy based on the determined relative position.

Bleaching compositions comprising hypochlorite and delivery systems therefor

The invention provides a bleaching composition of pH 8-14 which comprises an oxygen transfer agent and hypochlorite or a source thereof and a method for bleaching a stained substrate which comprises the step of treating the substrate with a bleaching composition of pH 8-14 which bleaching composition comprises an oxygen transfer agent and hypochlorite or a source thereof. Particularly preferred oxygen transfer agents are imine quaternary ammonium salts such as N-methyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolinium salts. Where these salts are used, suitable counter-ions include halides, sulphate, methosulphate, sulphonate, p-toluene sulphonate and phosphate. Oxygen transfer agents which comprise a quaternary nitrogen atom are preferred. In the alternative, the oxygen transfer agent can be a sulphonimine.

Geopolymer product

A method of producing a geopolymer product, which comprises: preparing an activated geopolymer premix by addition to a geopolymer premix of an activator compound that initiates a condensation reaction in the geopolymer premix; forming the activated geopolymer premix into a desired configuration to form a geopolymer structure; and curing the geopolymer structure to produce the geopolymer product, wherein the characteristics of the activated premix are controlled and the condensation reaction allowed to proceed for a period of time prior to forming such that when formed the activated premix forms a self-supporting geopolymer structure.

Acyclic nucleoside analogs such as acyclovir, ganciclovir, penciclovir and the corresponding pro-drugs, i.e., valacyclovir, valganciclovir and famciclovir, respectively have been identified as inhibitors or antagonists of both telomerase (encoded by TERT) and reverse transcriptase encoded by L-1 (LINE-1) RT, and as useful for treating or preventing cancers induced or mediated by the two enzymes. Method of treating or preventing such cancers in patients involves administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a composition having an inhibitor or antagonist of the reverse transcriptases in cells of the patients. The inhibitor or antagonist blocks lengthening of telomeres in telomerase positive and telomerase negative cells. Methods and kits for detecting pathologically proliferating cells expressing TERT and L1RT are also disclosed.
