The instant invention is a kit and a method for closing a wound. The kit for closing a wound includes at least one transparent support layer, and a flowable adhesive. The support layer includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on one side thereof. The method for closing a wound includes the following steps: (1) providing a kit for closing a wound which includes at least one transparent support layer that has a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on one side thereof, and a flowable adhesive; (2) aligning skin edges of the wound thereby juxtaposing the opposite margins of the wound next to each other; (3) affixing the transparent support layer on the juxtaposed margins of the wound thereby securing the opposite margins of the wound in the juxtaposed position; (4) applying the flowable adhesive to the exposed portions of the support layer and the wound; (5) allowing the adhesive to solidify; and (6) thereby closing the wound.

Devices and methods for the treatment of open and closed wound spinal cord injuries are disclosed. For example, described herein are devices and methods for mitigating secondary injury to, and promoting recovery of, spinal cord primary injuries. The device comprises first and second fasteners removably attachable to skin regions located proximate to the wound. The device also comprises an extension mechanism cooperating with said first and second fasteners. The extension mechanism is movable between contracted and extended configurations. When the fasteners are affixed to the skin, the mechanism forces the first and second fasteners away from one another with a predetermined tensile force, stretching the skin proximate to the wound. Described herein are a group of degradable, thermoplastic polymers, which are able to change their shape after an increase in temperature. Their shape memory capability enables bulky implants to be placed in the body through small incisions or to perform complex mechanical deformations automatically. The shape memory polymers are preferably biocompatible and can be biodegradable or non-degradable polymers. Preferably, the biodegradable polymer has a linear degradation rate. In a specifically preferred embodiment, the suture is formed of biodegradable polymer capable of forming a self-tightening knot. In a most preferred embodiment, the suture is used to close a wound or body scission.

The invention relates to a wound bed access device for providing access to a wound bed from outside a closed wound.
