Hair extraction device and method for its use

The harvesting of hair for a hair transplant procedure employs a hollow drill with an imaging system which permits alignment of center of the cutting edge of a hollow tube with the axis of the follicular unit to be removed. The diameter of the hollow tube is chosen such that when properly aligned, a follicular unit is removed without damaging critical anatomical portions of the follicles. In one embodiment, a medium in either liquid or vapor form is introduced to cool or freeze the skin over the surface of the selected follicular unit. In another embodiment, suction is applied to aid in the removal of the excised follicular unit. In still another embodiment, a robotic arm is employed to position the hollow needle in each instance. In another embodiment, an electrical current or heat is applied to kill the shaft of the selected follicular unit without its removal.

Radially-expandable PTFE tape-reinforced vascular grafts

InactiveUS20050096737A1Increasing and improving abilityReduce radial sizeLaminationLamination apparatusSurgical GraftInsertion stent
A tape-reinforced tubular vascular graft formed of sintered fluoropolymer(s), such as expanded, sintered PTFE. The graft includes a base graft and a reinforcing tape applied thereto. The tape may be spirally wrapped about the graft or spirally wrapped into a tube about a cylindrical mandrel and then applied to the exterior of the graft. Radial shrinkage of the combined base graft and tape, or of the reinforcing tape tube, renders the vascular graft subsequently radially enlargeable by more than 5%, without tearing or breaking of the reinforcement tape layer of the graft. Radially enlargeable grafts of the present invention may be combined with various types of stents or anchoring systems, to form endovascular graft devices which are transluminally insertable and implantable within the lumen of a host blood vessel. Alternatively, radially enlargeable grafts of the present invention may be implanted by way of traditional surgical graft implantation techniques, without any radial enlargement of the graft at the time of implantation, so as to take advantage of the improved strength properties and suture-holding properties of the radially-shrunken tape-reinforced grafts of the present invention.

Multi-bladed surgical scalpel

This multi-bladed scalpel addresses the problem of making many small incisions in very close proximity (as close as 0.030'' / 0.75 mm) to each other, to facilitate hair transplantation. With this device, it is possible to make multiple incisions in such proximity. With the blades mounted parallel to each other, at the desired spacing, each incision does not intersect neighboring incisions, so the follicles placed in each incision will be surrounded by the maximum amount of undisturbed tissue to promote revascularization-capillary growth to provide a blood supply to each transplanted follicle. CNC machining techniques are used to create the blade holders with blade mounting sites created at the desired proximity. Medical grade epoxy is used to mount the blades, which are mounted parallel to each other. Holes are drilled so the tips of the blade group are located in a plane at an angle with respect to the blade holder for ergonomic reasons

Varied diameter vascular graft

An implantable, varied-diameter graft is seamlessly flat-woven to provide a seamless, varied-diameter graft. The graft includes a flat-woven tubular portion having opposed first and second tubular ends with a contiguous bulbous woven section therebetween. The bulbous woven section has opposed first and second open ends with the first bulbous end being contiguous with the first tubular end. The second bulbous end is contiguous with the second tubular end. The first tubular end has a first number of warp yarns interlaced with a plurality of fill yarns in a woven pattern to define a first flat-woven tubular diameter. The second end has a second number of warp yarns interlaced with a plurality of fill yarns in a woven pattern to define a second flat-woven tubular diameter. The bulbous section has a third number of warp yarns interlaced with a plurality of fill yarns in a woven pattern to define a third flat-woven tubular diameter. The third number of warp yarns is greater than either of the first or said second number of warp yarns. Further, the third number of warps yarns are engagingly interlaced at the first bulbous end and disengagingly interlaced at second bulbous end to provide a seamless implantable graft having a third diameter being greater than either of said first or said second diameters.
