Gunwale attachable dry box for small watercraft

A dry storage box is held by a clamping device at a longitudinal location along the length of the small watercraft. Dry box provides water tight storage compartment with a hinged lid and latches for storing miscellaneous personal valuables and belongings. The clamped water tight box, in the event of capsize, remains secured to the gunwale, and thus valuables and belongings remain safe, dry and in one location. Incidentally provided are added buoyancy to the vessel in the event of a capsized condition, and when box is in normal use the longitudinal location allows free movement of the occupants about the small watercraft.

Automatic system for taking up and handling a connecting towrope between a tugboat and a towed vessel

The invention relates to an automatic system for taking up and handling a connecting towrope between a tugboat and a towed vessel. The inventive system comprises a fastening carriage which moves on guides around the deck of the tugboat. Once the towrope has been launched from the vessel to be towed, the aforementioned carriage moves along the guide until the built-in sensor detects the presence of the towrope at the upper part of the gunwale. The above-mentioned fastening carriage comprises a clamp and the tow cable or rope of the tugboat is fixed therein. According to the invention, when the system detects that the towrope has been inserted in the clamp, said clamp is closed and the carriage is released, the tugboat rope remaining connected to the towrope of the vessel. Once the aforementioned operation has been performed, the fastening carriage returns to the rest position thereof. The system operates automatically without the need for any human intervention on the deck of the tugboat and said system is remote controlled from the bridge.

Severably sectioned and stackable boat

InactiveUS6612255B1Extend the length of the boatVessel salvagingFloating buildingsKeelStructural load
A boat has two or more open hull sections that may be assembled prior to using the boat and disassembled or separated from one another prior to transporting or storing the boat. The forwardmost hull section is defined by the bow and an aft bulkhead. Each section has an elongated rigid structural load-bearing member, such as a keel or a gunwale, extending between its forward and aft ends. Each end portion of such member couples with a facing end portion of an aligned of the structural load-bearing member of an adjacent hull section through a rigid, load-bearing and load-transferring elongated shank member. The cooperation of each pair of facing rigid members and the shank interfitted with them causes all hull sections to be integrated into a rigid, load-bearing unitary boat. A cable may extend the length of the boat to prevent the shanks from being displaced from their relationship with the rigid member end pairs during operation of the boat. Latches of any suitable type may be included on the gunwales, bulkheads or elsewhere for the same purpose.

Modular kayak with elevated hull voids

A sit-on-top kayak hull having an elevated void in the area between the normal seated position of a paddlers legs. The elevated void which is formed into the hull of the watercraft and extends there-through to a height above the normal laden waterline generally to a level of the approximate height of the gunwales forms a hole in the craft which is surrounded by walls. Various modules may be inserted into the hull void for varying needs, such as storage modules, clear modules for underwater vision, or flotation modules. The hull void additionally allows for changes in the running surface of the kayak by insertion of rudders, skegs, centerboards or other devices The void may be left open in full or part for egress of scuba hoses, anchors or other marine devices without affecting the structural integrity of the kayak, its buoyancy, or adversely affecting its performance.

Road-towed heavy ferry

The road-towed heavy-load ferry may be produced in larger or smaller versions using the same design. Its basic embodiment can transport afloat loads exceeding 16 metric tons (17.6 tons) including its tow vehicle. The ferry essentially comprises three longitudinal hulls. Outboard hulls (12) pivot outward and inward to rest atop central hull (10). Thereby, the ferry is reduced to a width suitable for towing on public roads. Equipment for road towing includes telescoping towing tongue (32), and pneumatic-tired wheels (28) which remain intact afloat. Winch (40) enables kedging across shoal water or ground. The wheels extend below the deployed outboard hulls to assist in kedging by reducing friction, suction, and risk of hull damage. A water-ballast system counterbalances on-board loads and otherwise improves stability in adverse winds, waves, and currents. Hinged gunwales provide additional freeboard.
