Two component fluid dispenser

A two-component fluid dispenser which can accurately mix two liquids of varying viscosity and then precisely deliver the mixture formed in discrete amounts. The mixture of the two components is delivered from a single delivery tube in a manner such that none of the mixture remains within the delivery tube at the completion of each mixing and delivery cycle. In one form of the apparatus, the single delivery tube of the apparatus is operably coupled with conventional hypodermic syringes of various sizes so that different fluids can be mixed in different ratios.

Ice coated hypodermic needle

An ice coating is placed on the hypodermic needle to cool the flesh during insertion. The ice coated front end is sharp, for penetration. The ice coating can be formed by cooling the needle and dipping it in water or molding ice onto the needle. A refrigeration chamber or cryogenic chamber can be used to cool the needle. The mold for forming an ice coating can be cooled by a cryogenic fluid or refrigerant being conducted into coils of the mold surrounding heat conducting mold walls that are used to form the ice coating on the needle. The water can be sterilized with disinfectant included.

Arced Hypodermic Needle

A hypodermic needle for delivering a bolus of a pharmaceutically active agent to the posterior chamber of the eye having a lancet disposed at the distal tip and a lumen disposed along a longitudinal axis within. The lancet may be formed by an angled linear cut coming to a point at the distal tip of the needle, or an arc-shaped cut beginning at the needle tip parallel to the longitudinal axis and gradually arcing upward to roughly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Additionally, cuts, grooves, channels, or teeth may be added to the surface of the lancet in a regular or irregular pattern for the purpose of increasing surface tension on the drug bolus.

Medical devices with retractable needle

A hypodermic injection system with a retractable needle wherein the needle retracts within an interior cavity of a syringe plunger, such that the needle is confined within the plunger. A spring biases the needle rearwardly into the plunger, and a needle retainer releasably retains the needle against the bias of the spring. The plunger has a frangible end, which dissociates when the plunger engages the needle retainer, allowing the coiled spring to eject the needle into the interior cavity of the plunger. A body fluid sampling embodiment employs the same functional elements except the plunger is shorter and contains a linking that communicates with a vacuum container. The container allows fluid sampling and provides the structure to release the spring retracting the needle. The retractable needle embodiment is also employed with an insertion needle that guides a catheter tube below the skin of a patient and into the vein, and allows retraction of the insertion needle thereby avoiding accidental pricking of the health care worker by the insertion needle.

Bung assembly for anti vacuum lock medical vials

Anti-vacuum-lock assemblies for preventing vacuum lock when withdrawing medicinal fluid from a vial comprising a multi-finger bung-type stopper in which the fingers are of sufficient length to protect a collapsing or expanding bladder in the vial from being punctured by the hypodermic needle. In a first embodiment the vial includes one or more side or bottom wall holes to permit ambient air to enter in the space between an internal bladder containing a medicinal fluid and the inner wall of the vial. In another embodiment, an expanding bladder in communication with the exterior expands as fluid is withdrawn from the vial. In a third embodiment a fluted collar is inserted in the vial neck to provide air passages into the space between the medicinal fluid-containing bladder and the interior wall of the vial. The collapse of the medicinal bladder or expansion of the compensation bellows or bladder prevents vacuum lock.

Vial assembly and method for reducing nosocomial infections

Vacuum break vial assembly and method for reducing the incidence of nosocomial infections, comprising a vial stopper having a 2-part withdrawn-fluid volume compensation assembly having a barbed vent element that secures an apertured needle sheath, a bladder-retainer tube and an expandable / unfoldable bladder. The vial has an aluminum cap holding a plastic flip-off top that removes a central portion of the cap to permit access by hypodermic needle through the stopper into the needle sheath. No pre-pressurization of the vial by ambient contaminated air via the hypodermic can occur. Rather, the needle is inserted in the vial through the stopper and the medicinal fluid withdrawn. Air is inlet into the separate bladder which expands to permit withdrawal of fluid into the hypodermic without vacuum lock. No air having pathogen vectors is introduced into the vial medicinal fluid as the bladder isolates volume-compensating air from the medicinal fluid. Plural embodiments are shown.

Huber needle safety enclosure

A safety enclosure which is designed for a hypodermic needle that is located in the shape of an approximate right angle (Huber needle). A safety enclosure has a needle housing within which the Huber needle is mounted. The needle housing is mounted in conjunction with a panel unit. The panel unit is composed of a series of planar panels which are edge connected together defining an enclosed area. The panel unit can be movable from a basically transverse position to an elongated position. When in the transverse position, the panel unit is to be mounted with adhesive tape onto the skin of a patient with the sharp end of the needle being inserted within the body of the patient. When the panel unit is in the elongated position, the needle is withdrawn from the body of the patient and the sharpened end of the needle is covered by the panels thereby preventing undesired needlestick injury to the medical practitioner that is installing and removing the enclosure.

In accordance with one embodiment of the invention generally used to calm violent adult patients, the syringe has a first barrel containing an antipsychotic, a second barrel containing a sedating antihistamine and a third barrel containing an antianxiety sedative. Each barrel also has a separate projecting needle and contains a piston. A common operator, preferably in the form of a plunger simultaneously pushes all of the pistons so that the patient receives three injections simultaneously. For children, a second embodiment of the syringe includes two barrels instead of three, each barrel containing a separate medication. In each embodiment the syringe is packaged in a manually openable plastic envelope with a safety cap over the needles.
