A system and method are described herein for controlling the white balance and providing gamma correction without compromising gray-scale dynamic range in a flat panel liquid crystal display (LCD). According to one embodiment of the present invention, the flat panel LCD includes electronic circuitry for coupling to a host computer to receive a white-balance adjustment control signal, and electronic circuitry for receiving image data to be rendered on the flat panel LCD. Further, the flat panel LCD of one embodiment is configured for coupling to a color-sensing device to receive optical characteristics data of the flat panel LCD detected by the color-sensing device. The white balance adjustment mechanisms include the provision of two or more light sources of differing color temperature, whose brightness can be independently varied (and distributed through a light distribution mechanism) to adjust color temperature without altering the grayscale resolution of the RGB colors. The present invention further includes white balance adjustment software and gamma correction software for generating white-balance adjustment control signals and appropriate gamma correction curves.

The invention discloses a white light LED (Light Emitting Diode) device and a manufacturing method thereof, wherein the device comprises a base plate and at least one LED chip fixed on the base plate; a quantum dot composite light emitting material plate is arranged above the LED chip; and a transparent encapsulating material is filled between the LED chip and the quantum dot composite light emitting material plate. The manufacturing method comprises the following steps of: firstly fixing the LED chip on the base plate and welding a golden wire; then encapsulating the LED chip by filling the transparent encapsulating material; placing the quantum dot composite light emitting material plate above the encapsulating material and fixing the plate on the base plate; and finally, heating, curing and cooling the plate naturally to obtain the white light LED device. The invention provides the white light LED device with an optimized structure, high brightness, high lighting effect and high color rendering index by using the advantage that light emitted by quantum dots is continuous and adjustable in a visible light range; the manufacturing method and technology are convenient; and the manufactured LED device is simple in structure and stable in performance.

The remotely-excited fluorescent polycarbonate composite material can be used for preparation of a LED lampshade. The LED lampshade has a certain distance from a LED luminous chip so that the fluorescent powder is excited remotely. The remotely-excited fluorescent polycarbonate composite material has stable performances and uniform color temperatures, and greatly prolongs a LED lamp service life. The chemical formula of the phosphor is La1-aAlO3:Eua,Li<+>b, wherein, accounted by molal quantity, a is equal to or more than 0.02 and equal to or less than 0.2; b is equal to or more than 0.00 and equal to or less than 0.4; under the excitation of lights with wavelengths of 250nm to 400nm, the phosphor can simultaneously have three emission areas which include the blue lights the emission wavelengths of which are 440nm, the green lights the emission wavelengths of which are 515nm and the red lights the emission wavelengths of which are 592 and 618nm for composing the white light. The manufacture process is as follows: the weighed materials are dissolved into alcohol for forming serum and manufactured into powder through ultrasonic surging and drying; then the mixed gas of N2 and H2 is used as the reduction atmosphere for obtaining the phosphor under high temperature ignition. The spectrum characteristics of the phosphor can be effectively adjusted through adjusting the preparation technical conditions which include the ignition time, the ignition temperature, the reduction atmosphere and the adding concentration of a charge compensation agent of Li<+>. The full-color phosphor can be used for the white light apparatuses of a white light LED, a fluorescent lamp, and the like.
