The present invention provides an imaging probe for imaging mammalian tissues and structures using high resolution imaging, including high frequency ultrasound and optical coherence tomography. The present invention provides a system for processing panoramic photographic images. The system includes a mirror for reflecting an image of a scene, a mounting assembly for mounting the mirror on an axis, a first camera for capturing the image reflected by the mirror, at least one secondary camera for capturing a portion of the scene, means for mapping pixel data of the image captured by the first camera into a viewable image, and means for cooperatively displaying the viewable image and the portion of the scene captured by the at least one of the secondary cameras. The mirror may include a convex reflective surface defined by rotating around the axis: an equi-angular shape or a compensated equi-angular shape. The secondary camera may also capture a portion of the image reflected by the mirror. Alternatively, the system may include a single camera including an active-pixel image sensor for capturing at least a portion of the image reflected by the mirror. Methods for processing images in accordance with the system are also provided.

Aspects relate to a method of generating a high-resolution image containing depth information of an object. In one aspect, the method includes downsampling a first reference image and a second reference image from a first resolution to a second resolution, wherein the first resolution is higher than the second resolution, and wherein the first reference image and the second reference image comprising a stereo image pair. The method further includes generating a depth map at the second resolution based on global minimization techniques, using the downsampled stereo image pair. The method also includes upsampling the depth map from the second resolution to the first resolution and using a guided filter to align contours of the upsampled depth map to contours of the first reference image.

A fiber-optic bundle based optical coherence tomography (OCT) probe method is demonstrated in a multimode optical fiber bundle based OCT system. The system can achieve a lateral resolution of 12 μm and an axial resolution of 10 μm using a super-luminescent diode source. This imaging approach eliminates any moving parts in the probe and has a primary advantage for use in extremely compact and safe OCT endoscopes to image internal organs and great potential to be combined with confocal endoscopic microscopy.

Disclosed herein are three-dimensional projection systems and related methods employing two electronically controlled projectors and a retro-reflective screen. The retro-reflective screen produces a known non-linear light reflection pattern when images are projected thereon. Image computational means are used to calculating flat image information for each projector based upon inputted stereopair images and information regarding the projectors and screen. In preferred embodiments of the present invention, the projection system uses an image computational device that employs a neural network feedback calculation to calculate the appropriate flat image information and appropriate images to be projected on the screen by the projectors at any given time. More than two projectors can be employed to produce multiple aspect views, to support multiple viewers, and the like. In another embodiment, the projection system includes a digital camera that provides feedback data to the image computational device.
