A pick up and delivery system for use with mobile robots which have a body with a horizontal upper surface and at least one vertical side. The robot has at least one shelf, each of which contains a stop bar containing a retaining device. The system further uses multiple stations, each of which contain at least one pallet retaining surface to contain at least two pallets. The pallet retaining surfaces are provided with a holding device at the pick up area and a holding device at the delivery area. Pallets are used to retain the items being transferred with each of the pallets having a securing device that interacts with the holding device and retaining device. The strength of the holding device at the pick up area is less than the holding device at the delivery area, with the robot's retaining device having a strength between the strength of the holding devices. The mobile robot picks up a pallet from a first station, and delivers the pallet to a second station.

A hybrid impact beam, suitable for use as a reinforced impact beam in vehicle bumpers, includes an extruded aluminum section, a fiber reinforced polymeric (FRP) section, and a structural adhesive bonding them together. The components are arranged so that during an impact, the aluminum section experiences compression and receives the direct impact, the FRP section experiences tension, and the adhesive experiences minimal stress by being on a neutral plane of the beam's bending moment. The extruded aluminum beam is preferably extruded as an open section, but becomes a closed section when the polymeric section is attached. The FRP section is preferably a continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymeric section, although different reinforcements can be used. A related method includes bonding an extruded aluminum and fiber-reinforced polymeric section together to form a closed bumper impact beam.

Universal object retention system and method of use

An object retention system is adapted for retaining any one of a plurality of objects of different size and shape. The object retention system comprises a substantially thin, semi-rigid substrate and having a strap assembly including a plurality of straps overlaying the substrate and arranged in first and second sets oriented and angled in relation to one another. The first and second sets are woven together such as in a non-uniform or random pattern to form a plurality of strap overlaps. Each one of the straps may further be securable to the substrate with at least two anchor points. Strap sections are defined between each adjacent pair of strap overlaps and / or between adjacent pairs of anchor points to allow for insertion of at least one of the objects of multiple size and shape between the strap and substrate.

The fiber optic connector assembly further includes a connector body having a demarcation region at a first end, wherein the optical fiber is disposed within the connector body such that at least a portion of the windowed portion is positioned in the demarcation region, and the optical fiber is adhered to the connector body at the windowed portion. In another embodiment, the demarcation region includes an opening in the outer jacket that exposes the at least a portion of the windowed portion of the plurality of optical fibers and the optical fibers are adhered to a portion of the cable.
