208 results about "Alpha Value" patented technology

In the context of Java imaging, the alpha value specifies the amount of transparency in an image. Java alpha channels carry transparency information for each image. Alpha values range between 0.0 and 1.0 inclusive, where 0.0 is completely transparent and 1.0 is completely opaque.

Antialiased imaging with improved pixel supersampling

An image processing system is described that receives polygonal image data at the direction of a processor and develops antialiased image data for display on a raster scanned display. In particular, the image system includes a scan convertor for converting the polygonal image data into pixel data, which includes pixel screen coordinates and at least one color value for each polygon covered pixel of the pixel data and a supersample coverage mask indicating an extent of polygon coverage within each polygon covered pixel. The image system also includes a raster system having at least one image processor for receiving the pixel data for each pixel, for developing a region mask based on the supersample coverage mask, and for storing the color value in association with the region mask as anitialiased display data in an image memory in communication with the image processor based on the pixel screen coordinates. The region mask indicates one or more, geographical regions of supersamples within each pixel covered by one or more polygons and indicates a color value stored in the image memory to be assigned to the supersamples in a region. This requires only a single color value for supersamples within a region of a covered pixel to be stored in the image memory. The image system can also be configured to develop and store Z-values, alpha values, stencil values, and texture values for each pixel for storage in the image memory in association with the region mask.

Method and apparatus for discriminative alpha matting

Method and apparatus for creating foreground masks, or mattes, in images including complex images. A discriminative matting technique may generate accurate alpha mattes for textured images or objects with spatial-varying color distributions. Given an input image and a trimap defining an unknown region, a discriminative color analysis is applied to the unknown region, yielding estimated alpha values, estimated binary segmentation values, and a mixture probability map for the region. The map may be adaptively smoothed. The pixels in the unknown region are classified into boundary pixels and non-boundary pixels according to the probability map. The non-boundary pixels are classified as either foreground or background pixels using a differencing technique that compares multiple pixel features. The estimated alpha values for the boundary pixels are refined. An alpha matte for the image is output. The process may be repeated until convergence of the alpha matte.

Interactive image seamer for panoramic images

An interactive computer program for seaming a number of images into a panorama. Various parameters which affect how the images are seamed can be changed interactively. Parameters such as position, orientation, focal length, which image will be visible where images overlap, and the opacity curve can be changed. The result of any change is immediately visible. A user can move the control points, thereby “morphing” or distorting the contribution to the panorama of an image. Each pixel is assigned an “alpha” value which indicates the opacity value of that pixel in an area where images overlap. Alpha values can be changed according to a pre-established curve. The original images are not changed. Instead, only the transform between the original images and the final panorama is changed.

Alpha-to-coverage using virtual samples

One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for converting alpha values into pixel coverage masks. Geometric coverage is sampled at a number of “real” sample positions within each pixel. Color and depth values are computed for each of these real samples. Fragment alpha values are used to determine an alpha coverage mask for the real samples and additional “virtual” samples, in which the number of bits set in the mask bits is proportional to the alpha value. An alpha-to-coverage mode uses the virtual samples to increase the number of transparency levels for each pixel compared with using only real samples. The alpha-to-coverage mode may be used in conjunction with virtual coverage anti-aliasing to provide higher-quality transparency for rendering anti-aliased images.

Image generating system and program

It is an object to provide an image generating system and program which can generate such an image as in the real world with reduced processing load. The alpha-value for each pixel in the original image is set to a value corresponding to its Z-value. The set alpha-value is used to perform alpha-blending between the original image and a defocused image. As the difference between the Z-value of the focus and the depth value increases, the synthesis ratio of the defocused image is increased. The range of depth of field and defocusing effect are controlled by varying the corresponding relationship between the Z-value and the alpha-value. The alpha-value is set such that the alpha-value for an pixel located in an area AR1 between Z1 and Z2 will be set to α1, the alpha-value for an pixel located in an area AR2 between Z2 and Z3 will be set to α2 and so forth. The alpha-value is set by updating the alpha-value of a pixel located farther from an object when the object is drawn in a frame buffer. When the original image is set as a texture which is in turn mapped through the bi-linear filtering method, the defocused image is generated by shifting the texture coordinates by a value smaller than one texel.

Interactive image processing method used for video

The invention provides an interactive image processing method used for a video. The method comprises the following steps of extracting key frames from a video sequence; overlaying frames between adjacent key frames one by one to form a key frame cluster used for interactive marking; distinguishing the images of the key frames into a foreground area, a background area and an unknown area; carrying out spectral clustering and alpha value estimation on the key frames to obtain the sectional drawing result of the key frames; and finally, transferring the sectional drawing result of the key frames to the whole video sequence to obtain a final sectional drawing result. Because the foreground points are interactively marked on each key frame cluster, spatiotemporal information contained in the video sequence is fully utilized, and the naturalness and the intuition of user interaction are guaranteed on the basis of the user interface of the key frame, thereby conforming to the observation habit of a human visual system. Marking on the key frame clusters replaces independently marking on the key frames, and therefore the method has strong robustness for the situation with the big foreground object local action.

Blend Equation

A blend unit in a display pipe for processing pixels of video and / or image frames may include multiple blend stages, where each blend stage may include multiple levels for blending pixels according to a blend equation. The blending operation includes blending pixel color values and Alpha values. A multiplication may be performed at each blend level, necessitating Alpha value normalizations in the form of divisions to obtain pixel color values having a specified bit-length. Color value normalizations are not needed when the desired result is an actual color value. In order to reduce the compounding of errors that may result from the introduction of an error at each division, Alpha value normalizations may not be performed at each blend level, carrying the intermediate results forward in fractional form—through one or multiple blend stages—until the end of the blending operation. At or after the final blend level—in each blend stage, or in a final blend stage—a single division may performed, preventing the compounding of errors that would be incurred at each blend level if a division at each blend level were performed.

Flood filling a region with anti-aliasing. In forming a fill region, a candidate pixel can be included in the region based on a color of the pixel and also a color of a neighbor of the point. The inclusion basis may be a color distance between a seed color and the points, and a color distance between the seed color and the point's neighbor. Points in the region may be weighted according to their color distance relative to the seed color, where the color distance can also take into account alpha values. Flood filling may be anti-aliased by assigning alpha values to pixels in gaps between corners of the fill region, where an alpha value may be proportional to a point's contribution to the gap. Dimples in a fill region may be tested for and used to determine which of two flood fill algorithms to use.

Method for combining two images based on eliminating background pixels from one of the images

Two or more images are combined by designating one image as a threshold image based on information within the images themselves. Pixels in this threshold image are then segregating into foreground and background pixels according to some criteria. An alpha value is set to zero for background pixels indicating that these pixels in the threshold image will make no contribution in the combined image. The foreground pixels of the threshold image are set to some value greater than zero. Alpha values in the non-threshold image(s) are set such that the total value of alphas for pixels in the images to be combined totals one (indicating 100% total contribution).
