A present waterproof patient handset includes a speaker contained within an enclosure. The enclosure has a number of holes sufficient to allow sound to pass from the speaker through the enclosure. A foil is placed on the enclosure over the holes, and attached to the enclosure only at the foil's perimeter such that the remainder of the foil acts as a second membrane for the speaker. At the same time, the foil seals the speaker against intrusion by a liquid. A protection plate with holes sits between the enclosure and the speaker, and provides mechanical protection for the speaker. A rear cover has at least one boss having at least one deformable rib. The boss is inserted through a hole in a printed circuit board (PCB). The rib is deformed when the PCB is pressed with the front cover against the rib.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed to reduce the size, weight, and heat loss of power modules mountable in loudspeakers. Disclosed embodiments replace conventional linear technology with high frequency switching technology in both the power supply and amplifier. In these embodiments Class-D switching occurs at a low and fixed frequency, using standard components, with audio performance improvements through adaptation of internal error correction. By permitting 100% modulation, maximum output power is obtained, and a simple clip-detecting scheme is possible. A half-bridge and full-bridge with a single main supply reservoir is disclosed, obtaining useful allocation of output power while enabling the use of a simplified power supply. Power supply improvements include simplification and high efficiency, while meeting the particular system requirements of this scheme. Advantages include: increased acoustic output, reduced distortion, wider frequency range, smaller and lighter speaker housings, and lower cost.

A loud speaker according to the invention is mountable within a receptacle. The loudspeaker includes a magnetic driver and a diagragm mounted to a frame. The froame includes a mounting member extending from a surface of the frame behind the flange plane. The mounting member is engagable in a notch formed in the receptacle for securing the speaker within the receptacle. The loudspeaker enclosure has perforated layer shaped to define its inner volume. A honeycomb layer surrounds that perforated layer; and semi-rigid layer surrounds the honeycomb layer and forms the exterior wall.

A mechanical mounting system and extensional damping technique for loudspeaker crossover networks. This system decouples the crossover network from the loudspeaker enclosure (cabinet), isolating it from any vibrational energy in the cabinet walls. In addition, an extensional damping material is applied to the crossover network to damp any vibrational energy which may be coupled from the surrounding air into the network. The mounting system can be used for mounting any sensitive electronic components within an enclosure to provide isolation from the walls of the enclosure and from surrounding or environmentally induced vibrational energy.

A loudspeaker enclosure is arranged to support at least one electromagnetic loudspeaker driver generating both front and back acoustic waves. The front of the speaker is substantially planar and the driver is mounted in an opening in the front of the enclosure to radiate forwardly. The driver's back wave communicates through a passage adapted to function as an impedance-matched transmission line cavity having a length that is, preferably, three times the driver cone's diameter, and having one or more ports terminating in openings defined in a plane that is, preferably, substantially perpendicular to the enclosure's planar front. The port or ports have a cross sectional area of, preferably 0.707 to 1.414 times the operative area of the driver cone, thereby giving a highly efficient means of sound propagation.

An interfacing device for PDA/wireless terminal is disclosed. The interfacing device of the wireless terminal includes: a main housing provided with a main liquid crystal display (LCD) and a plurality of keys; a speaker housing which opens/closes at the main housing; a hinge means for connecting the main housing with the speaker housing; and a key top housing, which is connected to the hinge means, includes a designated shape window and an array of a plurality of keys, and opens and closes inbetween the main housing and the speaking housing, in which an auxiliary LCD is mounted at a designated position of the speaker housing to help a user to interface the auxiliary LCD through the window when the keypad housing is opened. The device has increased the convenience of use a great deal.

A manually operated flip dog mountable ceiling speaker enclosure, for ceiling or other panel installation, provides a plurality of flip dogs mounted tangentially on an annular flange around an opening of a speaker can and operated by either pulling on an actuator to create a cam-driven rotation to a radial alignment and a downward dog movement to a ratcheted clamping position, or by first rotating the manual actuator to rotate the dog and then pulling the actuator to pull the dog down into a ratcheted clamping position. Ratchet points on the dog are urged into ratchet points on a wall by a releasable biasing member. Three embodiments are illustrated.

A two-port air pump speaker that includes at least two active, phase-modulated, bi-directional shutters and an ultrasonic pumping chamber having at least two ports; a first port facing towards the listener, the forward port, and a second port facing another direction, the backward port which may be behind an acoustic baffle or inside a speaker enclosure. A two-port speaker with two active steering shutters can create continuous bi-directional airflow which leads to low distortion reproduction of low audio frequencies. The same improved design can be used also for other applications where acoustic modulation is required, especially in ultrasonic frequencies.

The subject invention is directed to a portable entertainment system that includes a housing unit and an audio system supported by the housing unit. A transport structure is coupled to the housing unit such that the housing unit is portable. The audio system includes electronic audio equipment and at least a first pair of speakers coupled to the electronic audio equipment. The housing unit contains a speaker enclosure and a support panel is disposed between and substantially parallel to the front and rear panels and the support panel divides the speaker enclosure to form a front air-filled section and a rear air-filled section. A first audio port extends through the housing unit into a front air-filled section of the speaker enclosure and a second audio port extends through the housing unit at least into a rear air-filled section of the speaker enclosure. When a first pair of speakers moves towards the rear panel in response to electrical signals from the electronic equipment, compressed air within the rear air-filled section flows out of a second audio port and when the first pair of speakers moves towards the front panel in response to electrical signals from the electronic equipment, compressed air within the front air-filled section flows out of a first audio port.

An adapter for connection to an earphone or headphone having a speaker which is housed in a relatively rigid casing utilizes an elongated hollow body having two open ends. One open end of the body is adapted to be positioned about the relatively rigid speaker casing of the earphone or headphone for connection thereto, and the other open end of the body is adapted to be positioned within the ear of a user. The invention relates to a connecting unit for the angle-adjustable connection of at least two loudspeaker enclosures. There are provided a first supporting part (13), which can be assigned to one loudspeaker enclosure (11), and a second supporting part (14), which can be assigned to the other loudspeaker enclosure (12), it being the case that the supporting parts (13, 14) are connected to one another in an articulated manner, and the angle position assumed in each case between the two supporting parts (13, 14) is fixed in an adjustable manner by an angle-position device (15) which acts in the manner of a turnbuckle.
