Optical fiber systems for delivering short high power pulses

Described is an optical fiber system for delivering ultrashort pulses with minimal distortions due to nonlinearity. The system is based on delivering the optical pulses in a higher order mode (HOM) of a few-moded fiber. The fiber is designed so that the dispersion for the HOM is very large. This results in a dispersion length LD for the delivery fiber that is exceptionally small, preferably less than the non-linear length LNL. Under these conditions the system may be designed so the optical pulses experience minimum non-linear impairment, and short pulse / high peak power levels are reproduced at the output of the delivery fiber.

Method and system for reduction of noise in microphone signals

A method for processing noisy electric signals, particularly microphone signals, to produce a processed noise reduced signal, is disclosed. Noise reduction is effected by subtracting from a main (front) digital signal a filtered rear signal obtained through an application of continuously adaptable filter coefficients to a rear digital signal. The filter coefficients are supplied by adapting means configured to impose optimal selective constraints on said coefficients, depending on a selected operative mode (either a far talk mode or a close talk mode). According to preferred embodiments of the method, each of the front and rear digital signals is split into a number of frequency subband signals. Each pair of signals belonging to the same subband is processed separately, all processed subband signals being combined into a single noise-reduced output signal. A system for implementing various embodiments of the proposed method is also disclosed.

More efficient display and control for wearable sports instrumentation

Technology for supporting personal sports performance moves from laboratory to field use only as and if instrumentation is designed both to meet its specific function(s) and to least hinder the athlete's performance. Even a standard wristwatch degrades an athlete's optimal motions when an athlete reads it while training or competing. This invention details a casing and strap (more specifically said casing's and strap's interacting shapes' and attachments' form, lie, and linkage), and controls, for a display for monitoring / sensory and / or feedback / reporting sports instrumentation, which meet both the sports instrumentation's and athlete's functional needs, as the casing and strap place the display and control diagonally across yet flush with the athlete's forearm.

System and Method for Generating 2D Texture Coordinates for 3D Meshed Surfaces

Systems and methods for generating 2D texture coordinates for 3D surfaces meshes may assign initial 2D texture coordinates to each node within a mesh using dead reckoning, compute a conformal mapping solution to revise the texture coordinates dependent on the initial mapping, and store the texture coordinates for subsequent use in a graphics application (e.g., applying a texture and / or re-meshing a surface). The methods may include designating one node as the origin, determining the shortest distance from each other node to the origin, and computing texture coordinates for each other node in order of increasing distance to the origin. The dead reckoning operation may compute texture coordinates of each node dependent on the distance and direction of a vector formed between the node and a neighbor node to which texture coordinates have already been assigned. Isometric terms reflecting stretching or compression may be introduced following convergence by the conformal mapping.
