A holder for a flexible leaflet prosthetic aortic heart valve that is less bulky than earlier holders and minimizes obstructions to vision and working space around the valve to facilitate implantation thereof. The holder may have a central hub and three outwardly extending legs that connect directly and exclusively to tips of the commissures of the aortic heart valve for better tactile feedback when parachuting and seating the valve in the annulus. The legs are sized so that they do not overlap the commissure tips and therefore afford a better view of the sewing ring adjacent the commissures. The legs may be narrow in the midsection or split into two rails to increase visibility of the valve leaflets. The hub may be vaulted axially upward relative to the outer ends of the legs to further increase visibility of the valve. A more secure engagement between the central hub and a delivery handle is also provided to ensure the holder/handle connection does not become loose during suture placement through the sewing ring and fewer handle revolutions are required to screw in and unscrew the handle from the holder.

A drainage catheter includes a tubular member with an anchor at a distal end and suture threads extending from the anchor to the proximal ends of the tubular member. This invention relates to a solar energy collector that converts solar radiation into both electrical and thermal energy. More specifically this invention relates to a concentrating solar energy collector with an integrated construction that minimizes cost, bulk, and weight, and maximizes overall efficiency. Typical non-concentrating solar collectors use photovoltaic cells over the entirety of their surface. These solar cells are the most expensive part of the collector. This invention discloses using a reflector to concentrate the incident radiation on photovoltaic cells with one-twentieth the area of the reflector, and transferring the co-generated thermal energy into a working fluid pumped through the cell support structure.

This invention describes novel methods and devices for stabilizing and retracting tissue during surgery, in particular internal tissue. Patches of material, preferably biodegradable, are adhered to tissue surfaces. By manipulation of the patches, for example directly with forceps, or via sutures attached to the patches, tissues can be retracted or otherwise manipulated with minimal trauma to the tissues. Insertion of the cannula into the breast may be accomplished by using a guidance system to distinguish between tissue types. A medical device for providing retrograde venous perfusion to the cerebral vasculature for treatment of global or focal cerebral ischemia is disclosed. The device includes a catheter having an infusion port at its distal end, venous drainage port(s), and an expandable occluder disposed between the infusion port and drainage port(s). The catheter can be inserted into the superior vena cava or the internal jugular vein. The catheter is attached proximally to a pump and an oxygenator with or without a cooling system. Alternatively, the device includes two catheters, each having a lumen communicating with a distal infusion port and an occluder mounted proximal to the port. The catheters can be inserted into the internal jugular veins distal to jugular venous valves. Methods of using the devices to provide retrograde venous perfusion and isolated cerebral hypothermia are disclosed.

Disclosed is a video laryngoscope having a body, an insertion section extending from the body generally parallel to a median plane of the laryngoscope extending through the body, and a display screen assembly extending from the body generally perpendicular to the median plane, the body comprising a grip portion intermediate the display screen assembly and the insertion section. The display screen assembly, comprising a display screen, extends laterally from the body and the inner edge of the display screen falls within the lateral extent of the body. The grip portion is also of a minimum size to allow an adult to grip the laryngoscope, the hand abutting the screen assembly. Thus, the laryngoscope is of a minimum overall size, the screen is positioned as close as possible to the line of sight of a user directly viewing the distal end of the insertion section, during a medical procedure, facilitating the user alternating between direct and indirect viewing, whereas the screen does not prevent the user from manipulating the laryngoscope by applying thumb pressure to the body. The laryngoscope may optionally be provided with thumb operable controls on the body or the screen. The screen may be adjustable about an axis, and, by virtue of the configuration and size of the laryngoscope, adjustment may be effected by the user's thumb, without the need to adjust the grip of the remaining digits.
