Optical burst switch network system and method with just-in-time signaling

Optical burst switch network system and method with Just-in-Time (JIT) signaling and advanced data transmission and memory access and management. The system and method allow concurrent data transmission having arbitrary signal types, such as analog and digital signal types, in which the JIT signaling allows for subsequent simultaneous transmission of optical signals that do not require electro-optical conversion. The system includes an optical signal bus having a passive star coupler. A plurality of network adapters that are in optical communication with the optical signal bus and in network communication with network terminal devices are provided. The network adapters include receivers, transmitters and control logic that allows for bi-directional movement of data signals as bursts between the terminal equipment and the network system. The transmitter and receiver may be fixed or tunable. The system further includes an optical bus controller in optical communication with the optical signal bus that processes signals from the optical signal bus to connect a requested network adapter to a requesting network adapter in accordance with the user-to-network protocol. The network system implements a just-in-time signaling protocol to signal nodes in the network that burst communications are forthcoming. Optionally, the system allows comprehensive memory access in a Local Area Network (LAN). The nodes in the network are capable of seamlessly addressing memories of all other nodes that comprise the network.

Edge node for connecting Ethernet and optical burst switching network

The invention relates to an edge node for connecting an Ethernet and an optical burst switching network, which comprises physical layer equipment, a first switching module and a second switching module, wherein the first switching module comprises an Ethernet frame analyzing and burst packet grouping unit, a queue managing unit and a scheduling unit; the second switching module comprises a burst packet analyzing and Ethernet grouping unit, a category temporary-storing unit and an inquiry unit. The realizing method for the edge node comprises the following steps of: judging the flowing direction of data; if the data is sent to the burst packet switching network from the Ethernet, analyzing the Ethernet frame, and grouping the burst packets; storing each burst packet according to the destination addresses; finding an idle channel to send the burst packets; if the data is sent to the Ethernet from the burst switching network, analyzing the burst packets and extracting the Ethernet frame; respectively storing the Ethernet frames according to the destination addresses; finding an idle physical interface to send the Ethernet frame, waiting for the next data, and repeating the steps. The invention has the advantages of full duplex switching and blockage improvement.

Apparatus and method for transferring data bursts in optical burst switching network

An apparatus and method for transferring data bursts in an optical burst switching network are provided. In an optical burst switching network including a number of nodes, each node including demultiplexers and multiplexers connected to a plurality of input/output ports for transferring the data bursts through a number of wavelengths, the apparatus for transferring data bursts includes a control module connected between the demultiplexers and the multiplexers for obtaining information in a control packet to sort and confirm service classes of the data bursts according to delay time and blocking rate; a switching unit connected between the demultiplexers and the multiplexers for switching the data bursts to an output port of a corresponding destination node; a first buffer connected between the switching unit and the output port for delaying the sorted and confirmed data bursts from the control module once by a preset delay time according to output resource availability and sending them to the output port when the data bursts are sensitive to delay time; and a second buffer connected between an input and an output of the switching unit for circulating and delaying the sorted and confirmed data bursts up to a preset recirculation limit according to output resource availability and then sending the data bursts to the output port when the data bursts are insensitive to delay time.
