Retractable safety barrier

A retractable barrier includes a rollup or otherwise retractable panel that can extend between two spaced apart support members. When not in use, the panel can retract onto one of the support members to permit passage. The barrier provides substantial impact resistance by having the reactive force of the impact transfer directly between the barrier's retractable panel and its support members without having to rely on the strength of the panel's take-up roller or the strength of the roller's anti-rotation mechanism. This can be accomplished by having a slot-engaging stop member mounted directly to the panel itself. The stop member is preferably a pipe, rod, bar or some other vertically elongate member that can broadly distribute an impact reactive force over the height of the panel. In some embodiments, the barrier can be set for various doorway widths by simply repositioning the stop member's location on the retractable panel.

Cabled massive security barrier

Masses of composite material are coupled together by means of one or more cables into a longitudinal barrier wall to provide security from terrorist threats by being able to withstand both vehicle collisions and explosive blasts. The one or more cables are routed through tunnels within the masses. The tunnels have tapered openings to protect cable from being sheared apart when adjacent masses slide relative to one-another. Some of the cable is anchored to some of the masses. Each mass that is located at an end of a barrier wall is used to support anchoring means to anchor some of the cable. Such barrier walls are supported by a surface such as a ground surface and can be dragged along such a surface since a ground anchoring means isn't required. Given sufficient cable, such a barrier wall can withstand great longitudinal tension, and can absorb and endure great amounts of mechanical and thermal energy.

Security barriers with automated reconnaissance

An intrusion delaying barrier includes primary and secondary physical structures and can be instrumented with multiple sensors incorporated into an electronic monitoring and alarm system. Such an instrumented intrusion delaying barrier may be used as a perimeter intrusion defense and assessment system (PIDAS). Problems with not providing effective delay to breaches by intentional intruders and / or terrorists who would otherwise evade detection are solved by attaching the secondary structures to the primary structure, and attaching at least some of the sensors to the secondary structures. By having multiple sensors of various types physically interconnected serves to enable sensors on different parts of the overall structure to respond to common disturbances and thereby provide effective corroboration that a disturbance is not merely a nuisance or false alarm. Use of a machine learning network such as a neural network exploits such corroboration.

Roadway barrier components formed using a system for recycling wet concrete and means for assembling multiple components into a continuous safety barrier wall

A wet concrete recycling system for mixing trucks returning to the cement plant throughout the workday. “Residual-collection” molds, kept on-hand at the plant, are filled with any excess wet concrete present in the returning trucks. The molds are configured to form finished components such as roadway barrier sections (i.e. jersey walls), and the like. The finished components are low in cost due to the use of recycled wet concrete, inexpensive reinforcing materials, and handles / assembly elements fabricated from other recycled materials. The finished components may be sold or leased to customers, thereby converting costs typically associated with traditional residual concrete disposal techniques into supplemental income streams. The finished components may be assembled into continuous roadway safety barrier walls. All structures assembled from two or more of the finished components are inexpensive due to the low cost of the individual components, easily constructed, and may be permanent or temporary in nature.
