The electric vehicle comprises a braking booster system, wherein the braking booster system comprises a vacuum pump for extracting air in the braking booster system to provide vacuum degree in the braking booster system. The method comprises the following steps of judging whether the vacuum pump is under working state or not, judging whether a braking pedal signal of the electric vehicle is received or not, and judging whether the vacuum pump breaks down or not; and if the vacuum pump is under the working state, the braking pedal signal of the electric vehicle is not received and the vacuum pump does not break down, according to the relationship between the vacuum degree in the braking booster system and time, estimating environmental pressure of the environment in which the electric vehicle is positioned, and according to the environmental pressure, calculating the sea level elevation of the environment in which the electric vehicle is positioned. According to the method disclosed by the invention, the calculation of the sea level elevation is realized when a manometer does not exist or breaks down, and the driving feeling of a driver and the riding feeling of a passenger are guaranteed.
