A word pattern recognition system based on a virtual keyboard layout combines handwriting recognition with a virtual, graphical, or on-screen keyboard to provide a text input method with relative ease of use. The system allows the user to input text quickly with little or no visual attention from the user. The system supports a very large vocabulary of gesture templates in a lexicon, including practically all words needed for a particular user. In addition, the system utilizes various techniques and methods to achieve reliable recognition of a very large gesture vocabulary. Further, the system provides feedback and display methods to help the user effectively use and learn shorthand gestures for words. Word patterns are recognized independent of gesture scale and location. The present system uses language rules to recognize and connect suffixes with a preceding word, allowing users to break complex words into easily remembered segments.

Sustained release dosage forms for twice daily oral dosing to a human patient for providing relief from pain are provided. The sustained release dosage form comprises an immediate release component and a sustained release component, wherein the immediate release component and the sustained release component collectively contain a therapeutically effective amount of an opioid analgesic and a therapeutically effective amount of nonopioid analgesic. In a preferred embodiment, the nonopioid analgesic is acetaminophen and the opioid analgesic is hydrocodone and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and in preferred embodiments, the pharmaceutically acceptable salt is bitartrate. The dosage forms produce plasma profiles in a patient characterized by a Cmax for hydrocodone of between about 0.6 ng/mL/mg to about 1.4 ng/mL/mg and an AUC for hydrocodone of between about 9.1 ng*hr/mL/mg to about 19.9 ng*hr/mL/mg (per mg hydrocodone bitartrate administered) and a Cmax for acetaminophen of between about 2.8 ng/mL/mg and 7.9 ng/mL/mg and an AUC for acetaminophen of between about 28.6 ng*hr/mL/mg and about 59.1 ng*hr/mL/mg (per mg acetaminophen administered) after a single dose.

The present disclosure relates to a device and method for determining and automatically transmitting a geographic location of a wireless smoke alarm during a potential fire emergency. The wireless smoke alarm includes a smoke alarm interfaced with a wireless transceiver, which operates over an existing wireless telecommunications network. The wireless transceiver can be a cellular processor with an integrated memory for storing emergency identification data. In one mode of operation, upon sensing the presence of smoke, the wireless transceiver automatically transmits stored emergency identification data signals to a dispatch center.

An approach for managing addition or deletion of nodes in a multicast or broadcast group, which avoids introducing a single point of failure at a group controller, certificate authority, or key distribution center, is disclosed. A system and method are provided for promoting vegetation growth on a steeply sloping surface. The system of the present invention includes anchors that are secured to the sloping surface, an inner mesh layer in contact with the slope, a geosynthetic layer placed over the inner mesh layer, and seeded compost material placed in the gap or space between the geosynthetic layer and the inner mesh layer. An outer mesh layer is placed over the geosynthetic layer to help stabilize the geosynthetic layer. The geosynthetic layer and outer mesh layer are also secured to the protruding anchors. Vegetation grows in the compost material and roots of the vegetation penetrate the inner mesh layer into the slope. An established root system stabilizes the slope. The seeded compost material provides an environment that greatly enhances the growth of vegetation on steeply sloping surface which otherwise do not have adequate soil to promote growth. The anchors provide additional structural stabilization for the slope and also provide a means to attach the layers of materials.
