Continuous Intra-Abdominal Pressure Monitoring Urinary Catheter With Optional Core Temperature Sensor

A device structured to generate an input signal to a monitor (201) to visually indicate a value for one or more physiological state variables measured by one or more transducers (203) associated with a medical patient. Preferred embodiments include a pressure transducer (195) placed in fluid communication with the patient's bladder (177) effective to infer intra-abdominal pressure P2. Embodiments may also include a temperature transducer (143) configured to measure the temperature of fluid in / near the bladder (177) to infer core body temperature. Certain embodiments of the invention may include a second pressure transducer (235) configured to measure arterial blood pressure. In the latter case, signals received from the two pressure transducers (177, 235) may be manipulated to produce a third signal corresponding to abdominal perfusion pressure, which can then be indicated on a numeric display device (233).

Apparatus for treating gerd

An implantable device for the treatment of acid reflux disease has a body including an outer surface adapted to rest against a patient's fundus wall. The device, when implanted in a patient, fills a volume in the patient's abdomen in the cardia area and above the cardia of the patient, when standing. The body prevents the cardia from moving through the diaphragm opening into the thorax, thereby preventing reflux by keeping the abdominal pressure supporting the cardia sphincter muscle. The device may be affixed to stomach tissue. The device may also be invaginated or otherwise indirectly secured in position.

Intra-Abdominal Pressure Monitoring Device and Method

An apparatus for monitoring the intra-abdominal pressure of a patient includes a urinary catheter (102) connected to a urine valve (250) providing selectable communication between a discharge end of the urinary catheter (102) and either a drain (224) or a fluid source (104). Preferably, the urine valve (250) is adapted for remote actuation and has a housing adapted to resist patient discomfort from leg-valve (250) contact. Plumbing structure desirably maintains fluid supply (225) and drain (223) conduits in a substantially parallel arrangement to assist routing those conduits (225, 223) between a patient's legs. When the urine valve (250) is oriented to permit communication with the fluid source (104), an infusion pump (116′) may be used to infuse a known quantity of fluid through the urine valve (250) and into the patient's bladder (216). A pressure transducer (218) desirably is connected in-circuit to indicate the fluid's pressure and avoid pressure fluctuations induced by system components. To facilitate the infusion process, an automatic flow control device may be included in a fluid supply path (225) and arranged to permit repetitive operation of a syringe (116′) to inject a bolus of fluid into the patient's bladder (216). Subsequent to making a pressure measurement, the urine valve (250) is returned to the bladder (216) draining position.

An implantable urodynamic system includes an implantable first device deployable in a patient's bladder, an implantable second device deployable in a patient's vaginal canal, and a data acquisition and analysis module or processing unit external to the body of the patient. The first device includes a magnet and an inductive coil, and the second device includes a magnet, an inductive coil and a battery. When deployed in the patient's body, attraction between the magnets maintains the two devices in close proximity to one another to effect an inductive coupling between the coils so that the first device may be powered by the battery of the second device. The urodynamic system is intended to facilitate measurement, collection, and wireless transmission of real-time, or near real-time, data (bladder pressure, abdominal pressure, and temperature) from an ambulatory patient. This data is of value in diagnosing a number of abnormal bladder conditions, such as infection, overactive bladder, bladder spasms, and the like.

Prosthesis and method for lowering abdominal pressure

A two-sheet fascial expander prosthesis for temporary use and method of using it to treat abdominal hypertension and associated organ system function impairment, in which each flat sheet is attached to the fascia only at opposite sides of an incision. One side of each sheet is armed with mating fastening elements that bond when united to bring about high tensile shear strength and low tensile peeling-off resistance permitting easy separation for diagnostic and therapeutic abdominal entry. The invention is useful because it expands the fascia and adds compliance to the envelope of the abdominal cavity by bridging the gap between free borders of the incised fascia containing intra-abdominal organs without strangulating their blood supply and retaining some tension on the fascia to prevent retraction and bringing the edges closer together as healing progresses, and permitting final removal of the patch and fascia-to-fascia closure. The method of producing and testing biocompatibility of the two-sheet fascia prosthesis also is disclosed.

Auxiliary breathing apparatus

The present invention provides an auxiliary breathing apparatus including a balloon for covering a diaphragm portion of a human body and a pressure sensor for detecting the pressure of the abdomen during a breathing process, wherein the pressure sensor is connected to a controller, the balloon is connected to an air pump by an air channel and the air pump is used for inflating or deflating the balloon; and the air pump is connected with the controller. The auxiliary breathing apparatus can detect the abdominal pressure of a patient through the pressure sensor. When the patient exhales, the abdominal pressure reduces, the pressure sensor transmits a pressure signal to the controller, the controller controls the air pump to inflate the balloon, and the abdominal pressure is increased to promote the upward movement of the diaphragm ; and when the patient inhales, the abdominal pressure increases, the pressure sensor transmits a pressure signal to the controller, the controller controls the air pump to deflate the balloon, the abdominal pressure is reduced to promote the downward movement of the diaphragm. Therefore, in the process that the upward and downward movements of the diaphragm are promoted by the pressure of the balloon, the phrenic nerve is stimulated, the diaphragm function is enhanced, and the respiratory function of the patient improved.

Abdominal circulatory pump device

The abdominal circulatory pump uses expulsive manoeuvres performed by contraction of the diaphragm while stabilizing, contracting or compressing the abdominal wall to increase abdominal pressure and pump blood. At the same time, it can be used to lower pleural pressure around the surface of the lung to provide ventilation. In humans the blood in the splanchnic circulation; i.e., the blood in the abdominal contents, is a reservoir of about 20% to 25% of the whole body blood volume. The increase in abdominal pressure forces this blood to flow out of the abdomen and through the body.

Diastasis recti splinting garment

A Diastasis Recti Splinting Garment is described which includes a plurality of attached torso straps and pelvic straps which the user wraps around their body and connects to the garment so as to approximate the 2 sides of the abdominal wall, providing support to the linea alba and fascial sheathes to allow for tissue healing. Furthermore, the adjustable angled straps encircle the torso and pelvis of the user to restore the integrity of the core, providing stability to the ribcage, spine and pelvis. Restoring the integrity of the core lends itself to optimal activation of the deep core stabilizers, including the abdominal muscles as well as the musculature of the pelvic floor, back, and diaphragm. This in turn aids in dynamic stability of the spine, ribcage and pelvis. This allows maximum support of the diastasis recti, consequently facilitating tissue healing through balancing intra-abdominal pressure, while still supplying support to the vulnerable pelvic floor and stability to the spine, ribcage and sacroiliac joints.
