147 results about "Exterior dimension" patented technology

In geometry, exterior dimension is a type of dimension that can be used to characterize the scaling behavior of "fat fractals". A fat fractal is defined to be a subset of Euclidean space such that, for every point p of the set and every sufficiently small number ε, the ball of radius ε centered at p contains both a nonzero Lebesgue measure of points belonging to the fractal, and a nonzero Lebesgue measure of points that do not belong to the fractal.

Endoscopic surgical access port and method

A sliding gas-tight seal on an access port promotes insufflation of an anatomical space formed in tissue at a surgical site only during insertion of an endoscopic instrument through the access port into the anatomical space, and promotes deflation of the inflated space upon removal of the endoscopic instrument from within the access port. An inflatable balloon disposed about the port near the distal end may be selectively expanded to seal and anchor the access port within an incision through which a surgical procedure with insufflation is to be performed. Multiple resilient seals may be attached to the body of the port, and an auxiliary resilient seal may be inserted within the aperture of a seal attached to the body to accommodate a wide range of endoscopic instruments of various exterior dimensions inserted through the seals.

Bumper system

A bumper having crash-boxes accommodated at least in part by space in a hollow cross beam section. As a result, when impact due to collision occurs, deformation of the crash-box takes place early, so that for the same outer dimensions of the bumper longer crash-boxes can be employed. This is of advantage as the energy absorbed by the compression of the cross beam is small in relation to the mass employed and the distance traversed compared with the that achieved with crash-boxes. The capacity to absorb energy exhibited by the proposed bumper is therefore greater than that achieved by conventional bumpers.

Container with an adjustable inside dimension that restricts movement of items within the container

A container for packaging items such as semiconductor wafers has a restraining portion with a changeable dimension at an open end that facilitates using conventional loading techniques while also more securely containing the items to avoid undesirable movement of the items in the container. In one example embodiment, the restraining portion includes a sidewall portion that has a first, nominal inside dimension at one end. A second end of the sidewall portion has a second, greater inside dimension at an open end. Another member of the container cooperates with the sidewall portion to change the inside dimension at the open end from the second, greater dimension to the first, nominal dimension. The nominal dimension is selected to correspond to an exterior dimension of the items to be contained within the package so that the container maintains the items in a secure alignment that eliminates lateral movement of the items once the container is secured.
