Sprayer with pivotal wing booms having forward and reverse breakaway and folded X-shaped transport position

This invention relates to a sprayer having a center boom and pivotal wing booms. The wing booms can be pivoted from an extended spray position to an elevated transport position by lifting and lowering each wing boom about a longitudinal lift pivot axis. In addition, each wing boom can bi-directionally breakaway relative to the center boom by virtue of a breakaway pivot arranged between the lift pivot axis and the innermost end of the wing boom. The breakaway pivot has at least one pair of nested cams that are biased into their nested condition by at least one spring. The center boom carries a pair of support cradles that direct or cam one wing boom forwardly and the other wing boom rearwardly as the wing booms are lifted into the transport position such that the wing booms form an X-shape relative to one another. The support cradles are partially flexible to allow the wing booms to release from the cradles if they strike an obstruction.

Turf injector with ground slitting knives

A turf injector includes a plurality of slitting knives followed by a plurality of nozzles for injecting chemicals into the ground. Each slitting knife is reversible to bring one of two longitudinally extending cutting edges into use, thereby extending the life of the knife. In addition, each slitting knife has dual sets of mounting holes received on a set of fixed mounting pins to further adjust the vertical position of each knife on the frame. This allows for wear of the cutting edge of the blade and further extends the life of the blade. The hole and pin mounting system desirably mounts each knife with its cutting edge held at a 15.degree. angle of inclination relative to the horizontal to minimize disruption of the turf and the length of the knife.

Apparatus and methods for enhanced plant and lawn growth using alkane injection

InactiveUS20050000154A1Promote plant growthIncreased nutrient uptakeBiocideRoot feedersAlkaneOxygen
Apparatus and methods are provided for introducing an alkane to a plant in order to stimulate the plant's growth. Any type of plant may be treated, including potted plants, shrubs, trees, lawns, agricultural crops and the like. In a preferred embodiment, the alkane comprises butane, but other compounds can be used, including methane, ethane and propane. The alkane may be combined with water or another liquid carrier, or plant growth-enhancing additives such as nutrients, insecticides and alkane-utilizing bacteria. To induce aerobic conditions, oxygen-containing gas such as air may be introduced along with the alkane or separately from the alkane. The introduction of alkane may enhance plant growth by increasing the indigenous microbial populations in soil, e.g. bacteria, fungi, protists, and prokaryotes, which may provide benefits such as increased nutrient uptake, faster root development, and reduced heat, drought and cold stress, resulting in enhanced plant growth.

System and method for dispensing a volatile liquid fertilizer

A system and process for dispensing a liquid agrochemical such as ammonia into a field is disclosed. The ammonia is placed in a vessel under sufficient pressure to maintain a substantial portion of the ammonia in a liquid form. From the pressurized vessel, the ammonia is fed to a distribution manifold where it is ultimately injected into a soil through a plurality of dispensing tubes. A constant pressure flow rate control device is placed at each dispensing tube for metering the amount of ammonia fed to the soil. Furthermore, the outlet flow of each constant pressure rate control device is made to vaporize nearby the inlet flow path to create a heat exchange effect thereby cooling the inlet flow. In particular, the flow control devices allow ammonia to be dispensed from the system while maintaining sufficient back pressure and temperature within the distribution manifold to maintain the ammonia in a liquid form. By maintaining the ammonia in a liquid form, uniform and accurately controlled flow rates can be dispensed from the dispensing tubes.
