Compressed gas visual notification device for signaling distress

A compressed gas visual notification device for signaling distress is provided. The compressed gas visual notification device includes a device housing having outer walls and a bottom wall for forming an interior firing chamber with the outer walls having first and second openings. The compressed gas visual notification device also includes a firing mechanism disposed in the first opening in the outer walls; a safety switch disposed in said second opening in the outer walls; and an air actuator shell disposed in the interior firing chamber. The interior firing chamber includes the firing mechanism and an actuator mechanism for firing the air actuator shell. The air actuator shell includes outer walls and a bottom wall for forming an interior shell compartment and shell opening. The shell opening has a non-porous shell membrane thereon. The interior shell compartment includes a quantity of compressed air under high pressure and a compressed gas dispersal receptacle member therein contained by the non-porous membrane. The compressed gas dispersal receptacle member includes an outer, non-porous receptacle membrane for containing therein a quantity of compressed inert, non-toxic gas at a high pressure. The compressed gas dispersal receptacle member also includes a quantity of aerosol, non-toxic micro-dispersion colored particles therein for adding color to the compressed gas. Actuation of the firing mechanism activates the air actuator shell so that the compressed gas and colored particles are released into the atmosphere as a visual notification device.

Passive Alarm To Prevent Buried Infrastructure Damage

A method and apparatus are disclosed for preventing excavation damage to buried infrastructure. A plurality of excavation-sensing modules is buried near the buried infrastructure. The modules protect buried infrastructure by emitting dense clouds of highly visible gas when the modules are activated by impact with excavation equipment. In most cases the visible gas will be brightly colored and it may also have a strong odor and may produce a loud sound when the module is activated. The dense clouds of highly visible gas, the optional odor and loud sound alert construction crews or other workers that their excavation is nearing a protected underground structure. Once installed, no maintenance or active monitoring is required. In a preferred embodiment of the excavation-sensing module, the dense cloud of highly visible gas is produced by ignition of a smoke grenade within the module. In the preferred embodiment, the smoke grenade is ignited by the interaction of the excavator striking and breaking the buried module. Also in the preferred embodiment, the excavator will normally pull the ignited smoke grenade out of the buried module and to the surface increasing the visibility of the gas. Also in the preferred embodiment, a more reliable design for ignition of the smoke grenade is disclosed.

High-voltage power line crash site alarm apparatus

The present invention discloses a high-voltage power line crash site alarm apparatus, which is an alarm apparatus sleeved on a cable, slides along the cable when the cable is broken, and falls onto the ground to give a smoke alarm. The protecting shell is hemispheric. Two protecting shells are clipped to form a whole ball housing. The protecting shell is made of a rubber material. A through hole is opened on the whole ball housing. The through hole runs through the whole ball housing. Multiple circles of roll balls are rotatably disposed on an inner wall of the through hole. One circle of rolls ball consists of at least eight roll balls. Two cigarette lighting grooves are opened on the protecting shell. A position giving groove is opened on a side of an inner part of the cigarette lightinggroove, and one end of the position giving groove extends out of the cigarette lighting groove. Two copper sheets are fixedly disposed inside the position giving groove. Sliding chutes are opened onthe bottom and the top of the cigarette lighting groove. The sliding chute is closely adjacent to the side of the inner part of the cigarette lighting groove. A sliding block is disposed inside the cigarette lighting groove, and an upper side and a lower side of the sliding block are slidably disposed inside the sliding chute.
