Methods and apparatus for accessing and treating regions of the body are disclosed herein. Using an endoscopic device having an automatically controllable proximal portion and a selectively steerable distal portion, the device generally may be advanced into the body through an opening. The distal portion is selectively steered to assume a selected curve along a desired path within the body which avoids contact with tissue while the proximal portion is automatically controlled to assume the selected curve of the distal portion. The endoscopic device can then be used for accessing various regions of the body which are typically difficult to access and treat through conventional surgical techniques because the device is unconstrained by “straight-line” requirements. Various applications can include accessing regions of the brain, thoracic cavity, including regions within the heart, peritoneal cavity, etc., which are difficult to reach using conventional surgical procedures.

An anatomical space access device having an elongate body; an insertion tip at a distal end of the elongate body; an anatomical space sensor disposed at the distal end of the elongate body, the sensor being adapted to sense a parameter identifying an anatomical space other than a vasculature space and to generate a signal; and an indicator operatively connected to the sensor to receive the signal and to indicate access of the sensor to the anatomical space. The invention also provides a method for providing access to an anatomical space outside of a vasculature space, including the following steps: inserting a distal end of an instrument through a tissue volume into the anatomical space outside of a vasculature space, the instrument comprising an anatomical space sensor; and generating a location indication of the anatomical space sensor.

A credit card size authentication card is manufactured using innovative sensor technology, processor technology, power generation and storage, panel display and integration technology. The front of the card has a data display and an exposed, biometric sensor. Internally the card has one or more flex boards that carry low profile, surface-mounted electronic components including a processor that provides the control functions and mathematical calculations to generate a series of random personal identification numbers (PINs) in the display. The random PINs are derived from a biometric seed number obtained during initialization of the card by a discrete user. The electronic circuitry controlling and interconnecting the processor, the sensor and the display is powered by a power system including a thin film battery, a thin film power generator and a low profile power regulator. The thin film power generator preferably comprises a thin film solar collector or RF antenna circuit for energy harvesting. The invention provides an audio plug capable of preventing excessive stress from being applied to a plug by enabling a plug body to be detached from a plug-in portion equipped with a channel plug, thus preventing damage and deterioration of function of the plug or a connecting portion between a cable and the plug. Unitary one-piece frameless overpressure vent panel assembly (10) includes a rigid, generally planar primary support member having a central relief opening (26), a rigid, generally planar secondary support member (44) provided with a central relief aperture (46), and a frangible vent panel (30) between the support members in full closing relationship to the relief opening and the aperture. A vehicle brake device A is provided with a master cylinder 10, a reservoir tank 12, solenoid valves 46 and 48 for adjustably draining brake oil from outlet ports 10a, 10b of the master cylinder 10 to the reservoir tank 12, a collision detection sensor 68 for detecting a collision of the vehicle, a fluid pressure meter 61 for detecting the master cylinder pressure, and an ECU 70. The ECU 70 detects the pushing-up of the brake pedal 11 based on the occurrence of a collision and the master cylinder pressure, and upon detection of the pushing-up, controls the solenoid valves 46 and 48 to adjust the draining of the brake oil so that the brake pedal 11 is withdrawn. A two-part rail clip insulator (40, 50) for a tie and rail seat assembly that enables the seat to be pre-assembled at the rail tie fabrication plant into a preloaded position where a rail (2) may be laid on the tie (5) on site, the clips (30) being movable to the loaded position after the rail is placed in position. Pin supported printed circuit boards are provided with torsion spring locking assemblies in which torsion springs surround the pins and are captured at one end and have free ends that are deflected, causing a tight grip onto the pins. The result is a pin locking mechanism that is inexpensive and robust due to the elongated contact of the spring with the pin that firmly locks the pin in place, with the extended spring contact protecting the pins against abrading and scoring while providing exceptional locking force.

A method of folding together a vehicle side curtain airbag is provided that includes bending a base section of an extended air bag toward the outboard side of the vehicle and fully over onto a middle section of the air bag located directly above the base section. The adjacent base and middle sections are then rolled, as a group, by first moving a crease line between the base and middle sections toward the outboard side of the vehicle, then curling the crease line back toward the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections and then rolling the remainder of the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections. A top section of the airbag is collapsed in a pleated manner.
