Systems and methods for identifying and removing spikes in data sets representing PCR growth curves or other sigmoid type curves or growth curves. A double sigmoid function with parameters determined using a Levenberg-Marquardt regression algorithm is used to find an approximation to the curve, and a statistical test such as a z-test is then used to identify spikes by identifying data points in the data set that do not fit well with the approximation. The identified spike(s) are removed from the data set and/or replaced with interpolated data points determined by using data points surrounding the identified spike(s). In one aspect, a spline interpolation process such as a cubic spline interpolation process is used to find an approximation to the data set with the identified spike points removed. Interpolated values to replace the spike points are then calculated using the cubic spline interpolation approximation curve.

A system and method where a second screen app on a user device “listens” to audio clues from a video playback unit that is currently playing an audio-visual content. The audio clues include background audio and human speech content. The background audio is converted into Locality Sensitive Hashtag (LSH) values. The human speech content is converted into an array of text data. The LSH values are used by a server to find a ballpark estimate of where in the audio-visual content the captured background audio is from. This ballpark estimate identifies a specific video segment. The server then matches dialog text array with pre-stored subtitle information (for the identified video segment) to provide a more accurate estimate of the current play-through location within that video segment. A timer-based correction provides additional accuracy. The combination of LSH-based and subtitle-based searches provides fast and accurate estimates of an audio-visual program's play-through location.

A method for estimating traffic lanes uses as input data the position and direction of feature vectors, which are measured from multiple different sensors independently of one another. A feature vector is formed by a position in the coordinate system of the ego-vehicle, which position describes a point on the border of a traffic lane, and a direction or an angle which indicates the direction in which the border of the traffic lane runs at this position. Further input data are variables which represent the quality of the measurement of the positional and the directional accuracy and the probability of the existence of a feature vector. A noise estimation system that estimates noises in a sequence of video frames, uses a an image structure remover and a noise variance calculator. The image structure remover computes the difference over a local window in two consecutive frames. The noise variance calculator estimates the noise variance (standard deviation) from the distribution of the local difference. The progressive stereo matching system also includes a correlation module, that computes a correlation score between the candidate pixel match, and a classification module, that classifies the pixel match based on its correlation score.

Method and a system for correlating pixels between two digital images. In general, the present invention uses a progressive iterative technique that finds generally unambiguous pixel matches by beginning with a few reliable pixel matches and finding progressively more unambiguous pixel matches. Unambiguous pixel matches in the current iteration then are found using the correlation technique and based on a correlation score associated with a pixel match. The search range is capable of being rotated, and is part of a novel correlation technique of the present invention that provides a more robust estimate of pixel match reliability. Potential pixel matches found in the search ranges are tested for ambiguity and any unambiguous matches are selected and added to the set of reliable pixel matches. The ambiguity testing includes determining a correlation score for the pixel match and classifying the match based on the correlation score.

The method includes capturing a plurality of first images with a first exposure length. The method further includes aligning each of the plurality of first images with each other and combining the aligned plurality of first images into a combined first image. The method further includes capturing a second image with a second exposure length, wherein the second exposure length is longer than the first exposure length and using the second image to adjust the brightness of the combined first image.

The present invention provides an improved determination of an acoustic coupling between a loudspeaker (110) and a microphone (120), which results in a better estimate of the acoustic coupling during double talk. This is achieved in a device (100) for determining an acoustic coupling between a far-end talker signal (101) as produced by the loudspeaker (110) and a combined signal (102), which comprises an echo of the far-end talker signal and a near-end talker signal, as picked up by the microphone (120), in which the acoustic coupling is derived from a ratio of changes in an envelope of the combined signal (102) to changes in the envelope of the far-end talker signal (101) in a predetermined time interval. In this way the systematic error during double talk (an estimation of the acoustic coupling that is too large) is not present anymore or at least strongly reduced.

Predicting the molecular complexity of a genomic sequencing library is a critical but difficult problem in modern sequencing applications. Methods to determine how deeply to sequence to achieve complete coverage or to predict the benefits of additional sequencing are lacking. We introduce an empirical Bayesian method to accurately characterize the molecular complexity of a DNA sample for almost any sequencing application based on limited preliminary sequencing.
