TO-can type optical module

A transistor-outline TO-can type optical module includes a stem, a sub-mount arranged in the stem and a laser diode (LD) is mounted in the sub-mount. A photo diode (PD), which has an inclined light incident surface, converts light emitted from the LD to current. A plurality of leads is extended through the stem while electrically being connected to the sub-mount. The inclined light incident surface of the PD permits that sufficient monitoring of photocurrent can be obtained and a p-side up bonding of a p-type electrode is allowed. Thus, the SMSR of the LOB is increased. A bias-tee is built in the TO-can to reduce heat caused by DC current and to increase opto-electric efficiency while suppressing an increase in the temperature of an LD chip.

Method, apparatus, system, and program for switching image coded data

A conversion server and a plurality of clients are connected via a transmission line. The conversion server that receives image coded data from the clients converts the image coding system in accordance with the coding system available to each client, the coding setting, and the status of the transmission line, and transmits the converted image coded data. For a client where the number of images that can be displayed is limited, the conversion server decodes a selected plurality items of image coded data, re-encodes the selected pieces into one composite image, and transmits the re-encoded image. The conversion server also comprises decoding processing units, one for each connected client, for decoding image coded data from each client. In response to a display image switching request from a client, the conversion server intraframe-codes the decoded image data of an image that will be used after the switching and transmits the intraframe-coded data. This enables an image to be switched quickly independently of the intraframe time of received image coded data that will be used after the switching.

Neonatal airway adaptor

This invention is a neonatal airway adapter (10) with a sliding internal passage (54), which virtually eliminates void volumes (112) within the bore (76) of the airways, such that mixing of the exhaled gases with void gases is reduced, and the waveform of the breath is maintained without undue distortion. Furthermore, the virtual elimination of void volumes reduces the level of re-breathing. The neonatal airway adapter connects to endotracheal tube adapters in such a way as to nullify the effect of the differing internal diameters (20) and internal lengths which are used in ET adapters currently available. The cross section of the internal bore of the airway through which the breath flows from the ET adapter to the connector of the ventilator is maintained almost constant, especially in the region of the gas sampling point (66), to ensure that reasonable conditions of laminar flow, and accurate sampling are maintained.

Embodiments of the invention provide a method and a system for fingerprinting a data object at a server system and a method and a system for extracting the fingerprint from the data object at a client system. Sections of a data object are watermarked with known watermark data to create a first and a second variant of the data object, whereby the section boundaries are optionally saved as metadata. Using the metadata, the first and second variant are combined by taking sections from the variants to create a fingerprinted data object. From the fingerprinted data object, the watermark data can be extracted again.

Automatic program formatting for TV displays

A smart multimedia content receiver automatically resizes video images based on the content being displayed on the TV screen. Such a self-formatting content receiver includes on-board image processing capability that provides continuous video analysis to detect changes in program formatting and convert each frame as it is received in real time, as opposed to processing and re-releasing an entire program or movie, or relying on the viewer to re-format programs manually. In response to detecting a change, aspect ratio adjustments are made as needed. Because the self-formatting content receiver has access to the video data before it is displayed, such automatic on-the-fly adjustments ensure that the viewer's experience during program changes is seamless and without distortion. Subscribers can influence decisions made by the content receiver by pre-setting viewer preferences for aspect ratio adjustment.
