86 results about "Breakup" patented technology

A relationship breakup, often referred to simply as a breakup, is the termination of an intimate relationship by any means other than death. The act is commonly termed "dumping [someone]" in slang when it is initiated by one partner. The term is less likely to be applied to a married couple, where a breakup is typically called a separation or divorce. When a couple engaged to be married breaks up, it is typically called a "broken engagement".

System and method of vortex wake control using vortex leveraging

This invention relates to a system and method for reducing the primary vortex wake structure generated by a lifting body mounted on an object moving through a fluid. This is achieved by first, altering the generated initial vortex wake to make it vulnerable to rapid breakup; and, second, producing disturbances to this wake with secondary vortices from auxiliary lifting surfaces, called vortex leveraging tabs, to instigate this breakup. This invention relates to various fields of uses to include vortices generated by any type of lifting body moving through a fluid to include aircraft and watercraft, such as surface vessels and submarines.

Field sequential display of color video picture with color breakup prevention

A method of displaying a color video picture according to a field sequential process is provided. A display device displays an image comprising a matrix of pixels. One frame image is composed of four field images ranging from a first field image to a fourth field image. With four adjacent pixels handled as one unit, the colors R, G, B, W of illuminating lights applied to the pixels in each unit are different from each other, and the arrangement of the colors is successively switched or changed in each field period. Information representing the colors R, G, B, W separated from a video signal is displayed sequentially in successive fields at positions corresponding to the colors of the illuminating lights applied to the pixels and times at which the illuminating lights are applied to the pixels.

Microarray hybridization device

A novel hybridization device that improves the efficiency and consistency of microarray hybridization reactions by achieving a greater degree of internal mixing of target solution. The device provides a gasket-and-cover-type chamber wherein solution mixing is achieved by the creation of a multitude of microbubbles. One or more of the inner walls that define the chamber contain bubble-rupturing elements that extend into the chamber and terminate in sharp edges. They are typically located on opposite sides of a rectangular chamber and are pointed in a direction opposing bubble movement. Their interference with larger bubbles causes their breakup into microbubbles which travel separate and distinct paths as a result of external agitation and thereby provide improved solution mixing that results in a uniform distribution of target molecules to the probe molecules bound to the substrate. The sensitivity and consistency of the hybridization reaction is significantly increased.

System and method for creating liquid droplet impact forced collapse of laser nanoparticle nucleated cavities

A device, method and system for causing a controlled collapse of cavities formed within liquid droplets wherein a pressurized jet comprising a liquid and nanoparticle material produces droplets from the breakup of the jet stream. The liquid droplets may be irradiated with energy to produce and expand cavities formed within the droplets by irradiation of the nanoparticles contained within the droplets or alternatively, a volatile fluid with or without a metal nanoparticle may form the cavity. The droplets are collided with a target to collapse the cavities within the droplets. The irradiating (if provided) and colliding are timed to enhance implosion energy resulting from the cavities' collapse. The implosion energy and the fuel in the cavity may be used to activate and sustain a fusion reaction or from any other purposes.

Efficiency enhancement and protection method for ocean, river and channel kinetic hydro turbines

Kinetic energy contained in oceans, rivers and channels can be converted to power using kinetic hydro turbines. These turbines can be tethered to the ocean floor, riverbed and channel bottom and their vertical position within the water column controlled. A method is disclosed that permits to increase the power extracted by the turbine by modifying the boundary layer using a shaped object located upstream of the turbine to increase the flow velocity through the turbine. The object also provides protection during climatic events like spring ice breakup, logs and storms that could damage the turbine. Additionally the shaped object can allow the turbine to be tethered to it. The shaped object can be made symmetric to allow operating in tidal conditions where the flow direction changes periodically. On site manufacturing can also alleviate overall costs.

The invention discloses a method for measuring and calculating characteristics of breaches of a landslide and debris-flow dam. Aiming at overcoming the deficiencies of the prior art that the method for measuring and calculating the average widths of the breaches of the landslide and debris-flow dam is not appropriate, and the residual heights of the breaches cannot be measured and calculated, the invention provides a method for measuring and calculating the average widths and residual heights of the breaches of the landslide and debris-flow dam and the application thereof. The method for measuring and calculating the breaches of the landslide and debris-flow dam comprises the steps of: firstly obtaining basic data required in measurement and calculation through field investigation and measurement or sampling analysis, and then respectively calculating two characteristic values such as the average width and the residual height of each breach according to corresponding formulas. Based on the breakup mechanism and characteristics of the landslide and debris-flow dam, the method disclosed by the invention pertinently solves the problem of measurement and calculation of the characteristics of breaches of the landslide and debris-flow dam, and realizes the measurement and calculation of characteristic values of the residual height of the breaches for the first time. Through comparison of the measurement value and the practically measured value, the errors of the calculated results are not big, thus the engineering practice demands can be met. The method disclosed by the invention can be applied to measurement and calculation of characteristics of breaches possibly caused before or after the landslide and debris-flow dam is formed.
