Said method comprises the steps of detecting by said control unit (5) whether a low-speed movement of the first vehicle (1) has occurred in a congested traffic; if a low-speed movement of the first vehicle (1) has not occurred in a congested traffic, operating the long-range radar (3) and the short-range radar (4) in a high power consumption mode by means of the control unit (5); if a low-speed movement of the first vehicle (1) has occurred in a congested traffic, operating the long-range radar (3) and the short-range radar (4) in a first energy-saving mode by means of the control unit (5).

Calibration of a continuous-wave short-range radar system at intermediate frequency

A calibration method for operating a CW short-range radar system in obtaining calibrated intermediate frequency in-phase and quadrature outputs comprises measuring at least one reflective static calibration target at a plurality of at least four different target ranges and processing the received CW radar measurement signal by performing a quadrature down-conversion of the received CW radar beam intensity and phase to obtain measured intermediate frequency in-phase outputs and intermediate frequency quadrature outputs. These are used to solve a system of equations for calibration parameter values including an amplitude mismatch a phase mismatch between the quadrature signals, and individual DC offsets of the quadrature signals.

Short range radar device

A short-range radar device comprises a receiving antenna, an input transformer connected to the receiving antenna, a tunable-local-oscillator amplifier to receive a radar signal, a local-oscillator transformer connected to the tunable-local-oscillator amplifier, a mixer respectively connected to the input transformer and the local-oscillator transformer, and an adjustable-transimpedance amplifier connected to the mixer and outputting an intermediate-frequency signal. Portion of a differential signal output by the local-oscillator transformer is leaked to the receiving antenna through the mixer and / or through signal coupling between the local-oscillator transformer and the input transformer, and the portion of the differential signal leaking to the receiving antenna can be used as the radar signal radiated by the short-range radar device of the present invention, so as to detect targets at near distances, and therefore a dedicated transmitting antenna and its related amplifier circuits can be optionally eliminated to achieve the objective of the present invention.
