A structured electronic representation of a document is automatically reviewed to identify the symptoms experienced by the complex system, the plurality of components of the complex system and the causal relationships between a failure of the respective components and the occurrence of the various symptoms. Respective probabilities can be associated with the causal relationships between the symptoms and the failure of the various components. A network model, such as a Bayesian network model, may then be automatically constructed to represent the symptoms, the components, the causal relationships between failure of the components and exhibition of the symptoms, and the probabilities of the respective causal relationships.

A source chamber has a housing having one or more sidewalls and an extraction plate, wherein the one or more sidewalls and the extraction plate enclose an interior region of the source chamber. One or more inlets provide a fluid communication between one or more ionizable material sources and the interior region. An extraction aperture in the extraction plate provides a fluid communication between the interior region of the source chamber and a beam path region external to the source chamber. A method for detecting a subject's stress level associated with an activity includes (a) connecting the subject to a sensor that senses a value of a biometric; (b) during the activity, (i) repeatedly sensing the value of the biometric over each of a plurality of time windows; and (ii) computing, for each time window, a deviation in the sensed values of the biometric; and (c) detecting the stress level based on the computed deviations. In one implementation, the value of the biometric is a skin temperature measurement. The method may be implemented as an application in a wireless handheld device, such as a cellular telephone.

Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided to authenticate and determine the integrity a software part. In this regard, a software part is authenticated and its integrity is determined by determining a first hash of the digital data that comprises the software part. If the air vehicle lacks data communications connectivity with an off-board security system, the method determines the authenticity and integrity of the software part by decrypting an encrypted hash of a software part in accordance with a public-private key pair to create a decrypted hash, comparing the first hash with the decrypted hash and transmitting the first hash to the off-board security system once data communications connectivity is established. Conversely, if the air vehicle has data communications connectivity with the off-board security system, the method determines the integrity of the software part by transmitting the first hash to the off-board security system for comparison with a whitelist.

A virtual profilograph is disclosed that can provide measurements indicative of the ride quality of a roadway as the road is being constructed. As a result, a more timely, less costly indication of the ride quality of a roadway is obtained as compared to prior methods. In a first embodiment a Global Navigation Satellite System antenna is attached to a vehicle. When the vehicle travels over a roadway, measurements of the position of the antenna are recorded at different times. A profile of the roadway is created by measuring the elevation of the antenna as a function of the distance traveled from a starting point. In another embodiment, tilt sensors are used to measure the slope of the roadway and the tilt of the vehicle so that a precise orientation of the vehicle and, hence, the contours of the roadway, can be determined.

The invention relates to apparatus and a method for the provision of an antenna reflector which is provided in the form of a substantially circular parabolic dish provided to receive and/or transmit signals over known frequency ranges. The invention allows the use of a reflector to be achieved quickly and efficiently in potentially hazardous geographical locations.
