Object detection system for vehicle

An imaging system for a vehicle includes an imaging sensor and a control. The imaging sensor is operable to capture an image of a scene occurring exteriorly of the vehicle. The control receives the captured image, which comprises an image data set representative of the exterior scene. The control may apply an edge detection algorithm to a reduced image data set of the image data set. The reduced image data set is representative of a target zone of the captured image. The control may be operable to process the reduced image data set more than other image data, which are representative of areas of the captured image outside of the target zone, to detect objects present within the target zone. The imaging system may be associated with a side object detection system, a lane change assist system, a lane departure warning system and / or the like.

Credit card system and method

A credit card system is provided which has the added feature of providing additional limited-use credit card numbers and / or cards. These numbers and / or cards can be used for a single transaction, thereby reducing the potential for fraudulent reuse of these numbers and / or cards. The credit card system finds application to “card remote” transactions such as by phone or Internet. Additionally, when a single use credit card is used for “card present” transactions, so called “skimming” fraud is eliminated. Various other features enhance the credit card system which will allow secure trade without the use of elaborate encryption techniques.

Selective replication of data structures

Methods and apparatus are provided for selectively replicating a data structure in a low-latency memory. The memory includes multiple individual memory banks configured to store replicated copies of the same data structure. Upon receiving a request to access the stored data structure, a low-latency memory access controller selects one of the memory banks, then accesses the stored data from the selected memory bank. Selection of a memory bank can be accomplished using a thermometer technique comparing the relative availability of the different memory banks. Exemplary data structures that benefit from the resulting efficiencies include deterministic finite automata (DFA) graphs and other data structures that are loaded (i.e., read) more often than they are stored (i.e., written).

Heat exchanger tube with integral restricting and turbulating structure

A heat exchanger tube having an integral restricting and turbulating structure consisting of dimples formed by confronting indentations pressed into the sides of the heat exchanger tube. The dimples are comprised of indentations disposed in pairs which extend into the tube to such a depth as is necessary to significantly reduce the cross sectional area of the heat exchanger tube. The dimples of a pair are staggered or offset, longitudinally with respect to each other such that a restrictive passage is defined between each pair of offset dimples. The turbulence characteristics of the tube can be controlled by varying the depth to which the dimples project into the tube and the longitudinal spacing between the dimples that comprise the pair. Adjacent pairs of dimples may be rotated 90° with respect to each other or alternately can be arranged in a helix pattern.

Deceleration control apparatus for a vehicle

A deceleration control apparatus to achieve the intended level of deceleration performance regardless of whether braking performance is changed by towing an object such as a trailer, and to reduce the possibility that a driver feels uncomfortable due to a change in the level of deceleration performance while the vehicle is running. Vehicle weight is calculated based on the actual running state of a vehicle, and it is determined whether the vehicle is towing an object based on the vehicle weight. When the vehicle is stationary, a deceleration pattern (the rate of change in a target deceleration) is changed based on whether the vehicle is towing an object. Therefore, it is possible to achieve the intended level of deceleration performance that matches the level of driver's request for deceleration, regardless of whether the vehicle weight is changed by towing an object.

Apparatus, system, and method for regulating the number of write requests in a fixed-size cache

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for regulating the number of write requests in a fixed-size cache that facilitates differentiated treatment of write requests based on an assigned pacing value. The apparatus includes an examination module to examine a pending write request issued by an application. A priority module determines a priority for the write request based on an operating system defined input / output priority value. An assessment module assesses a storage demand level for storing write requests in a fixed-size cache. An assignment module assigns a pacing value to the write request based on the priority and in response to the storage demand level. A permission module permits the application to issue a subsequent write request once the pacing value of the write request is satisfied. The pacing value is satisfied by waiting until the amount of time specified by the pacing value expires.

Lockable overshot

Lockable overshot (10) includes an elongated body (12), lifting dogs (14a, 14b) and a locking sleeve (16). Ends (18) of the lifting dogs (14) are configured for latching a conventional spearhead point therebetween. The locking sleeve (16) is retained on the body (12) and is provided at one axial end with a circumferential wall (66) and two diametrically opposed gaps (68). The locking sleeve (16) is rotatable on the body (12) between a locked state preventing ends (18) of the lifting dogs from pivoting away from each other to release a previously latched spearhead point, and an unlocked state where the locking sleeve (16) allows the lifting dogs (14) to move so that the ends (18) can be pivoted away from each other to release a previously latched spearhead point. In this regard, the locking sleeve (16) is provided at one axial end with a circumferential wall (66) provided with a pair of diametrically opposed gaps (68). When the locking sleeve (16) is in the locked state, the wall (66) is disposed inside or between ends (56) of the lifting dogs (14). This prevents the ends (18) of the lifting dogs from pivoting away from each other. When in the unlocked state, the gaps (68) register with the ends (56) of the lifting dogs (14) so that the ends (56) can be pivoted toward each other thereby pivoting the ends (18) away from each other to release a previously latched spearhead point.
